  1. I just rewatched this movie, and I think I kind of like it! I'm not a fan of the cloyingly sentimental scenes and the boring cliches, but I was excited at the movie's climax. Rating: B
  2. Marketing's working. My 11-year-old sister wants to see this based on commercials she's seen.
  3. You know, I was going to say that this was silly, but then I thought about the year 2050. By then, nearly the entire adult population will be indoctrinated into the Disney cult. They better make sure that the animated features stay good, though.
  4. Didn't people say that about The Secret Life of Pets?
  5. Moonlight November 21, 2016 AMC Sugarloaf Mills 4 people The cheap showing before noon sold out, so I bought a ticket to the much less popular afternoon showing. The only people there were me, a couple, and a single woman. They seemed a bit restless at certain parts of the movie. Downright uncomfortable, even. Not sure if they liked it.
  6. I think everyone's going to laugh their asses off once that teaser is shown to be deeply misleading. They didn't even show the cars' eyes!
  7. They seem to favor Zootopia over Finding Dory in Oscar campaigning. We'll see how big Moana is.
  8. Nearly all of the actors' roles in Moonlight are short. I think they might want to focus on the actor who made the first impression.
  9. It's been a long time since I've watched a movie that spoon-feeds nothing to its audience. The dreamlike mise-en-scene supports the emotional immediacy well. That's not to say that the spell never breaks. The Kevin in part II is a poor performance compared to the other leads. That's part of the reason I was so incredulous at one emotional crescendo and its rather hackneyed cuts. (Clenching fingers on the sand?) But overall, this movie is an A.
  10. What are you talking about? General audiences are just going to love another fucking movie about show-business. The music isn't boring as shit either!
  11. When will an animated feature win the Best Picture Oscar? Not in my lifetime, I'd bet.
  12. Heavy Traffic might be his one genuinely good movie. It's the only one I've seen in full.
  13. For some time, I expected Tadashi to not actually be dead. I'm still waiting for his miraculous return, because it's ridiculous how fucking stupid his death was. But overall, this is a decent movie.
  14. Well, the best movie ever already came out in 2016. But I'm just guessing what these jaded old farts think about tentpoles. Lego Batman: Maybe it's the next Zootopia. Great reviews + unexpectedly great word of mouth. I dunno. Live-action Beauty and the Beast: The new Jungle Book, except you'll look less cool gushing about it. Fast 8: I seriously forgot this movie was coming out so soon. GOTG2: Maybe this one will shut up the cynics for a couple weeks. Pirates 5: Fucking flop. Spider-Man Homecoming: "It's just another teen comedy, but with Spider-Man!" Dunkirk: B+ War for the Planet of the Apes: Don't know anything about this. Alien: Covenant - Can you say Prometheus? Blade Runner 2049: Not going to come close to making back its budget. Thor: Ragnarok - Yay, another MCU movie. Coco: The new, smaller Moana. Star Wars VIII: Yeah, people will fall over themselves for this one.
