  1. Cinderella is the only good movie out of Disney live action cash grabs that I've seen so far (didn't bother with Jungle Book, can't with talking animals in live action).
  2. is this going to be mo'cap like Favereau's live action Disney remakes or actors will wear cat make up like on Broadway?
  3. Maybe audience doesn't care for historical epics anymore? Unless they have some fantasy element in it like POTC?
  4. true. I'm behind Oscar news cause I don't care that much.
  5. yeah, it may be CRA situation where initial legs suggested it could reach bigger heights than it ended up reaching. Still, it's a major awards movie so we'll see how far into season its legs take it. I expect it'll get theater increase after inevitable drop once it starts lining up awards nominations and wins (Comedy Musical Globe wins for Picture, Actor and Actresses are a given).
  6. this. if she signs to play Ursula in the Little Mermaid, that's another over 100M hit. And everyone knows Ursula is the star of that thing, not the mermaid.
  7. WB has IT franchise. Sure, it ends next year but it's cheap af to produce and massive af at the boxoffice. I don't know why they shelved The Stand. It's a very timely book and could be a giant hit in the right hands. It would also have a well-justified split into at least 2 movies.
  8. Kaluuya won't win cause Ali will. Done deal. Everyone who saw Ali in Green Book said game over. But another nom for Kaluuya will be nice. Question
  9. Does Rudd has a career anymore since he signed up with MCU? Not that he can't do anything else since he isn't as used in MCU as some more popular MCU actors, but maybe he hasn't been in anything relevant outside of the franchise for 3 years now? I reemmber he used to headline comedies once.
  10. This. I remember "Venon will plummet" predictions of between 60-70% drop and now that drop is closer to 55% which is a gold standard for big openers, some people try to put a negative spin. Hell no. Such drop would be a disaster for ASIB cause that type of movie is supposed to have under 50% drops but it's good or even very good for Venom type of a blockbuster. It's obviously a Saturday/Sunday player rather than Friday one which suggests families are into it.
  11. that's not a bad thing cause it forces them to get more creative with other material. Having a sure-fire franchise makes studios lazy. Look at Disney with their lazy live action remakes of classic animated movies and those vanity bombs AWIT, Tomorrowland, etc. WB did amazing this year with such "could go either way" titles - CRA, The Meg, ASIB, and say what you will about The Conjuring Universe but it was spawned from the original idea. So I'm a fan of the studio and hope they get DCEU on track without copying MCU. We need something different form that part of CB universe.
  12. There are no movie stars anymore but the few that are a leftover from old times (Leo, Denzel, Cruise, The Rock, Jason, Sandra, Meryl, Willy). Franchise/brand is the king now and people's attachment to the franchise character doesn't necessarily extend to an actor/actress outside of the franchise. They have success sometimes if they play a role similar to their big brand role (Lucy) but not always (GitS). In short, they have no drawing power on their own because they aren't groomed for that anymore unlike movie stars of the old where movies were made specially for them. Now there are too many actors and all of them replaceable outside of their designated brand (and even inside of it).
  13. I wish that mega bomb in making First Man didn't take screens from Venom. what a waste. FM's gonna flop. Venom's gonna drop. What a disaster weekend.
  14. I like that write up that @tenken posted because I'm sick of Star trek cliche where planets have unified culture across the whole freakin planet. If Na'vi have their differences, all the better. I'm very curious to see what JC does.
  15. This was just a teaser and I'm sorry to say but it focused on the wrong things. Why is that CGI bird about 90% of the teaser? And who gives a fuck about Aladdin? They should have teased Genie considering Will Smith's top billing at the end of the teaser. That Stargate voice (what did he say?) was not enough. Still, it's a teaser. It's job is to announce the movie to the world. I'm sure trailer will be better. The world does look fake af including that puma cave/Imhotep's face.
