  1. One of the most spectacular episodes of TV. I've been pretty consistently enjoying this series from the start but this just took it to another level. We get these really beautiful, poetic conversations between characters as well as being incredibly cinematic. It fell in line with the things I love about the movies. The episode also felt earned. Not to start diving into comparisons again but we had that Ep.3 of HOTD which gave us a big battle early on. While it was pretty to look at, I don't think I could have had less investment from a narrative/character perspective. And I understand in the grand scheme of HOTD it's just a stepping stone but I'm glad Rings of Power didn't blow it's load early to placate those looking for some zest and instead saved it for a moment where you're actually invested in everything that's happening. I'm willing to forgive some of the silly little plot contrivances that happened simply because it was so enjoyable to watch.
  2. I don't think Avatar ever used the now infamous poster font in the actual movie. As far as I remember it's always been that green glowing title card at the end with completely different font.
  3. I'm fuming right now because I think the marketing just spoiled this in a pretty silly way. It's not out for another month in the UK
  4. Will be checking out the re-release tomorrow with the variable HFR in 3D. It's my first big screen HFR experience so a bit wary. Hoping Cameron can sell me on it. Avatar might be more digestible because it's largely CGI, thus avoiding a lot of the pitfalls that come with HFR.
  5. This is leagues better than the last couple of Star Wars shows. Every scene, every shot, every line feels like it has a real driving force behind it and not haphazardly slapped together.
  6. Best episode so far for me, loving watching week-to-week. This one greatly benefitted from having a wide spread of characters to focus on. A lot of players on the table with their own motivations, made for a very tense engagement!
  7. I thought See How They Run was quite charming, especially Saoirse Ronan who is an absolute delight. Maybe it tries too hard with the self-referential meta stuff and it's not reinventing the wheel when it comes to a whodunnit. But a pretty good watch nonetheless.
  8. What a blow, was genuinely shocked when I saw the announcement. It'll take a while getting used to God save the King.
  9. @Krissykins Did you go to that screening btw? Wondering what it was 🤔
  10. Odeon's doing the same thing. It's usually called Screen Unseen, this one is called Scream Unseen so definitely a horror.
  11. AUGUST Movies Current Releases Nope - 10/10 - Absolutely gripped to the edge of my seat. Gorgeous IMAX photography, was a visceral cinema experience. Favourite film of the year so far. Go in as blind as possible. Prey - 8/10 - The kick up the ass the franchise needed, top notch action, Amber Midthunder is a badass. Lightyear - 7/10 - Pulled on my heartstrings at the start, but settled into generic kids animated film going forwards. 13 Lives - 7/10 - The claustrophobia and sound design were A+ but you’re better off watching The Rescue. Day Shift - 6/10 - The perfect throwaway, schlocky, B-Movie that you want from Netflix. Action and kills were surprisingly fun. Beast - 5/10 - Comes alive when the Lion is on screen, not so much when it isn’t. Bullet Train - 5/10 - Tries so hard to be witty, sharp and fast that it becomes numbing at points. Fight scenes were well shot but aren’t extensive enough. Samaritan - 4/10 Older Releases A League of Their Own - 10/10 - I laughed as hard as I cried. Everything Jon Lovitz says is comedy gold. Police Story - 9/10 - Strips back some of the comedy from other Jackie Chan films which makes the action a lot more tense. It’s proper nail-biting stuff, especially the final act. Armour of God II: Operation Condor - 8/10 - Riffing more on Indiana Jones, huge set pieces and a really funny ensemble cast. Some parts definitely don’t hold up; lots of brown facing and Nazi redemption?! The Faculty - 8/10 The Frighteners - 8/10 - Peter Jackson doing his best Robert Zemeckis. Mars Attacks! - 5/10 - The aliens were fun, everything else meh. TV The Sopranos S4 - 10/10 Light and Magic - 9/10 - What could have been a throwaway documentary is actually delightfully in-depth. A celebration of innovation, storytelling and the people behind it. House of the Dragon - 9/10 - Must-watch-TV right out of the gate, puts all the other fantasy shows since GOT to shame. There’s a tangible quality to the storytelling. Lets see if it holds. Westworld S4 - 8/10 - This season started off so well but the back half was underdeveloped and undercooked. Overall I did enjoy it more than S3 but it didn’t quite live up to its initial promise. The Sandman - 8/10 - What a nice surprise! Has a storybook feel to it. Whimsical and dark in all the right places. It did run out of steam towards the end a bit. She Hulk - 7/10 All of Us Are Dead - 6/10 - Perfect trash TV. A full on soap opera with unbelievably stupid characters and lots of people dying. I Am Groot - 6/10

  13. Man, I did I rewatch of the trilogy like a year ago and I must have blocked this scene out of my mind. That's absolutely insane. Agree with your consensus about the trilogy, 3 sucks.
  14. The UFO UAP designer did some interviews a while back where he basically said there's a lot of cut scenes and implied a possible directors cut. I'll see if I can find the quote. EDIT: The full interview has lots of major spoilers so only click if you've seen the film. I've isolated the relevant quote. https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/nope-movie-ufo-design
  15. I'm on the same page with it being my favourite of the year so far. I've actually been back to see it a couple more times in IMAX because there's absolutely nothing else out at the moment and it just solidified it, I fell in love with it more and more.
  16. The tailer is used as an official ad on other unrelated videos. So the mini trailer is to entice people before they can click the skip ad button and get them to watch the whole thing.
  17. Same, it'll always have a special place in my heart. I watched the recent movies at home which were fun and lovely to catch up with these characters from childhood but didn't really care to watch a whole follow up/adjacent? TV show. Feel like that's for the next generation.
  18. Hoping I'll enjoy it when it releases here. We've had some great ones, but something about this years horror line-up overall seems a bit weaker than last year to me.
  19. I still think about that Top Gun second weekend drop. Coming off a holiday weekend and dropping that little, unbelievable. Right now everyone's just quietly waiting for it to hit $700M
  20. I loved this. One of the best of the year for me and everything about it demands a big screen experience. It's been rattling around in my head since I got out of the screening and I can't wait to go again honestly.
  21. Just wanted to say I thought Nope was genuinely something special, I think we were gushing about it for nearly 2 hours after the screening ended. The craftsmanship on display was outstanding and the sheer simplicity and structure of it harkens back to films of a different era. It's really Jaws/Close Encounters/Signs for a new generation, I was absolutely engrossed. The IMAX photography was gorgeous, check it out in the format if you can, best sound design of the year so far as well. This and Top Gun: Maverick have really driven home what the big screen experience means this year.
  22. Yup. My Nope IMAX screening was practically empty. Also hope it does well, I thought it was absolutely amazing.
  23. I found this a bit too scattershot. The character's were extremely likeable but everything was so overloaded and loud to the point where it all becomes a bit numbing. There's also not a properly extensive fight scene so the film doesn't manage to have the hook of a standout action scene (like the stairwell fight in Atomic Blonde).
