  1. A Denzel fan still acknowledges that Mr.Washington is one man. Frequently you may see comments like, "I'm so glad he/she won 'x' award!". The fan doesn't feel any inherent ownership of the win, why I don't know cause I've had this same thought when and actor/actress won while in something I liked. Perhaps because it is the inverse of the below. I'm sure you have as well. Jurassic Park(insert franchise here) is a franchise you as the consumer actively participate in beyond the movie ticket. One might buy comics, novels, toys etc etc and therefore you feel like an active "owner" in the property and invested in its continued success.
  2. You have conflated your example, an individual actors win, with a fandom/genre win. To say it another way, you have an apples vs oranges comparison.
  3. Or just not frequent the cineplex. They probably all saw Magic Mike and/or 50 Shades of Grey though would be my guess when they did hit the cineplex last.
  4. No, it's a supervillain movie. 😉 It falls under the broad category of a CBM in a similar way that Road To Perdition, Kingsman or even say Cowboys&Aliens. All were first published as either a comic series or collected edition by a publisher in the industry.
  5. So it held to the studios expectations, no doubt let the die hards down who were predicting over $100m OW. I'm curious to see the second weekend drop. Does it hold well like Chapter One or is it more front loaded and drops 60%. I feel it could be the latter.
  6. I found a few of Will Smith's lines to be a tad funny. For me this series, at the time, was the replacement for Lethal Weapon it just stalled out after 2 late 90s. I'll still see it as I'm sure it'll be worth it for the action scenes alone based on the trailer.
  7. I've been ready for this almost as long as I've been wanting a Beverly Hills Cop 4. So 1 down to 1 to go.
  8. Iron Man is for sure going down as a classic superhero film. It is right there with Superman('78), Batman('89) and Spider-man('02) as legendary.
  9. Is FF: H&S looking like it could do double digits over the 3 day Holiday weekend?
  10. ^^^ Well I guess I'm unique and niche cause I don't use reviews. The other factors, sure, spot on.
  11. Is it really so hard to understand that I'm perplexed how one doesn't know oneself after years of movie going to be able to make up ones own mind? You watch 2-3 trailers, see a few TV spots and you can't figure out for yourself if it might be good. You need some "pro" reviewer(s) aggregate score? The word of your own friends or co-workers isn't good enough? It's actually that simple.
  12. My only concern about Sony once again being in full creative control of Spider-man is that I recall they suck at that. Sam Raimi controlled the creativity of Spiderman 1&2. Sony then muddled and forced Raimi to put Venom in the script via Ari Arad. Sony then signs Raimi to a Spider-man 4&5 while giving Maguire $50m for both pictures. They hit Raimi with a hard deadline which he says he'll need more time to make the film(SM4 with Malkovich in talks for Vulture) he'd like to make. Sony says, no we need the film when we say we need it, they fire Sam and Toby. Scrap SM4/5. Sony then gives us Amazing Spider-man 1&2 with a Lizard that has no real punch to him but to be there, blue Electro and a military mech style Rhino. Sony also gives us a Venom story that is bad even if Tom Hardy make is somewhat watchable. I'm wholly worried about what Sony's "creative plans" are for the character. The MCU has a whole toy box. I'm actually happy with what we got with Spidey/IM/Avengers. I can rest on an MCU Spidey till then. Lets see about Eternals, Shang-Chi, Fantastic Four, Black Knight and others.
  13. About time we got more comic accurate on her. Of course I'll be curious why this look didn't carry over into the other films but lets cross that bridge later. Also, it seems they are doing a bit of redesign on Red Guardian's mask, two tone vs the more usual all red. Fin seems gone or muted like Yondu, can't really tell here.
  14. I still think an Ant-Man 3 will happen. There is just a lot on their plate now that X-Men/FF are back. Nothing wrong if AM sits out a Phase. Frankly with Tony dead that leaves Hank Pym as the tech "super guy" and a great place to meet Reed Richards.
  15. 1. Haha, not true. A BW film has been asked about by some time and by many, not just BW fans. 2. No one legitimally calls Ant-Man films underperformers, they performed as expected and were profitable. Hulk underperformed due to the unexpected massive Iron Man movie released 6 weeks earlier steamrolling it. That's really the only "blemish" on the MCU box office wise.
  16. So this will clear $150m US domestic with the weekend and Labor Day is still around the corner. Still chances for this to make money and look even more respectable.
  17. Did Universal edit from the screenplay the things that would make this DARK UNIVERSE or will they still be there. I must admit I liked the idea of DARK UNIVERSE and how Russel Crowe's(Hyde) secret organization was being set up.
  18. I do want to see this. Really enjoyed the series. I'll have to see it after my wife has her ladies night viewing though. I have bargained for Rambo: Last Blood though with a friend. Yes, one can like both Downton and Rambo.
  19. So a sequel with a lower budget could very well happen it sounds like. They could/should realize they need to pull back from the more outlandish("superman") and tone it down stunt wise but just have a stronger character driven script.
  20. I'm no fan of Avatar but I do know Avatar 2 will not bomb. The rest is up in the air till we see how 2 does. I've no doubt that at this point it'll get some nostalgia dollars(people who can't recall anything but the effects), new dollars from folks born around/just after the original who've probably never seen it and think it looks great as well as actual fan dollars from those who actually liked/loved the original.
  21. After 3 weeks the movie is still the #2 film in the land with $133m US Domestic in the register. Will this movie survive due to lack of competition? It'll be at/near $150m next weekend, Labor Day is coming up. Are we looking at a near break even vs budget scenario?
  22. What? What exactly is a "pedophile symbol"? Is this like the hand sign for "OK" suddenly being called a White Power sign post Trump election? I'm 43 and no one, ever, EVER has said that OK =White Power Now suddenly there are also Pedophile symbols....people just be making shit up and sheep on social media run with it like it's The Blair Witch Project.
