Still haven’t seen barbie, but the “gosling getting nominated and not gerwig or robbie proves the message of the film was correct” must be the stupidest award discourse ever.
In context I think it’s reasonable to say that not awarding lead actress or director noms counts as ‘not going nuts’ for barbie, I’m sure we can agree on that much
I wouldn’t say I’m excited for this but it does increasingly feel like it’ll be huge, from a total dearth of other big movies this year if nothing else
I don’t understand how ‘blowing the budget’ was she-hulk (the show’s) fault. That’s on marvel, surely? Or did it start out as much less and costs escalated because of poor planning?
I keep seeing “protect the hive” promos for the beekeeper and it looks like a parody film you’d see a poster of in the background of a bojack horseman scene
I didn’t think watchmen was perfect (the finale was poor) but overall it was a thoughtful expansion of the world with enough interesting ideas of its own. And in superhero tv/movie land, interesting ideas are like water in the desert.
I think difference is that in his prime Schwarzenegger had a real knack for picking quality directors and it often paid off. Compare with his supposed descendant Dwayne Johnson who took two decades to realise that constantly picking trash eventually affects your star power
I think with Fall Guy it just depends if it’s any good or not. At the moment it looks like a throwaway Netflix production and I keep having to remind myself it’s a proper cinematic non-streamer movie.
I think cinema is stuck in a no-man’s land of being neither cheap entertainment nor a boutique, luxury experience (too many dickheads with phones and bad manners ensure it’s not the latter).
I do think at some point operators will have to pick one.
The reaction to that video was a tad OTT. Yes, it sucks that studios don’t pay you more because the film won’t do the numbers OS but, well, they’re not lying about that. It is a box office trend, albeit an unfortunate one.
“X movie flopped so why aren’t we talking about it as much as Marvels???” is by far the year’s most annoying box-office meme. It’s even been done with actual hits like Wonka.
