I am pretty sure they put "From the director of Titanic" for Avatar too. Doesn't mean Cameron isn't a brand. 

 

Cameron wasn't quite on Spielberg's level prior to Avatar. Avatar took him into that stratosphere. It was 12 years since he made a movie. That's a long time and the general audience is ADD. Spielberg could quit for 12 years and they would still know who he is, but that is what happens when you work on 4 iconic movies like Jaws, Indiana Jones, ET, and Jurassic Park. Cameron before Avatar only had two iconic projects: Terminator and Titanic. Now he has 3 and one of them is very recent, so his fame has been elevated.

So that explains Thursday to Saturday numbers for STID. People thought it was coming out on Sunday!
