#51 (huge drop)

51. Memento

LYR: 25

Christopher Nolan, 2000

Nominated for 2 Oscars

52 points

"Who did this to you?"

Synopsis: A man, suffering from short-term memory loss, uses notes and tattoos to hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife.

Trivia: During Teddy's line "You don't have a clue, you freak!", director Christopher Nolan felt that Joe Pantoliano, who played Teddy, did not quite nail the end of the line, so he decided to rerecord the last two words to his liking, delivering them himself. Therefore, in the final film, the words "you freak", as we hear them, are actually being said not by Pantoliano, but by Nolan impersonating Pantoliano's voice

#50 (Halfway done!)

El laberinto del fauno (Pan's Labyrinth)

LYR: 63

Guillermo del Toro, 2006

Nominated for 6 Oscars, won 3

53 points

"A long time ago, in the underground realm, where there are no lies or pain, there lived a Princess who dreamed of the human world."

Synopsis: In the fascist Spain of 1944, the bookish young stepdaughter of a sadistic army officer escapes into an eerie but captivating fantasy world.

Trivia: Guillermo del Toro gave up his entire salary, including back-end points, to see this film become realized.

Huge drop for the Nolan movies so far. Memento deserved a higher spot. I am worried for Inception and The Dark Knight now.

They will be there, I saw them on a lot of people's lists

In 2012 the forum was on a Nolan high. Now cooler heads are prevailing and he's settling down to a more apt opinion of his movies

That was because TDKR had just been released.
