filmlover
September 16 looks open, they could put it there if they're that determined to align with the 50th anniversary.

CoolioD1
in my head always with this movie's title. when i buy tickets i'll have to say it like this
grim22
I don't know if this will end up being delayed or not, but a delay to September/October may actually end up being for the best if they do decide on that. The first trailer for this had no clear hook beyond "Star Trek is back". The first trailer for Into Darkness at least set the stakes clearly playing up Cumberbatch as "not at all Khan" who wants to take down Starfleet. This movie's first trailer had a space juggalo lady and nothing to actually differentiate it from the previous movie or give it the big hook it needs to stand out in a crowded late July frame. It is the small fish of late summer right now, all the other movies around it have something more to offer beyond just "here is another installment of this franchise" July 15 - Ghostbusters - all female reboot, MRA nightmare fuel July 22- Star Trek Beyond - just another Star Trek movie July 29 - Jason Bourne - Greengrass and Damon are back August 5 - Suicide Squad - first ever supervillain teamup and the first appearance of the new Joker Beyond will lose the blockbuster war if it stays where it is currently. I agree with this. I'm inclined to think that Ghostbusters is gonna be huge at this point if McCarthy was able to power The Boss to a $20M+ opening (and it will certainly have more buzz than Star Trek will when it opens). narniadis
Moving to Sept would continue the year long approach to blockbusters.... and September just sounds great (imo)
narniadis
Frankly whoever said Labor Day Weekend is right the film will have a 2nd weekend drop anyway but it could have a great 4 day or even 6 day if they opened the Wednesday before..... Halloween showed us that large openings are possible on that weekend.
Dementeleus
'Star Trek Beyond' to Get Barco's Tri-Screen 'Escape' Treatment Twenty minutes of VFX-intensive action from Paramount's "Star Trek Beyond" will be presented in Barco's new tri-screen panoramic presentation called Escape to enhance theatrical box office and compete with Dolby Vision and IMAX laser projection. It could move to July 15. Nobody gives a damn about that GB reboot.

It is also pretty much useless as not a lot of theaters even have that, both Maze Runner movies were released in that format as well.
Impact
You know when I was young-Trek was in and Star Wars was not that popular at the time. Back in the early 90s there was Star Trek merchandize everywhere! Not a lot of Star Wars stuff though. Anyway-I see this making around 230M at the moment.

It gets weirder The Paramount after-party had dancers with the space juggalo makeup and this Pretty obviously a last minute decision to not feature Star Trek at all, really strange considering that Pegg presented Abrams with an award during the event, and Cinemacon awards are pretty much based on "Which movie does the studio want to promote?"

Yup, something is up. Even with a delay they could still have shown footage.

You could argue the same is true for 15/70 IMAX. It should be a novelty/treat for those who're in theaters equipped with the technically, but it won't be more than a few dozen at most (I would think).
