Good movie overall. Script could have used a bit of work, some fairly cliche' scenes here and there (the whole "war veteran who's got some judgement issues" mainly) but overall I remember this being a pretty well put together film with it's main strengths being a strong emotional core and Eastwoods great performance. I give it a solid "B".

 

(Just for the record it has been years since I have seen it, I'll try to rewatch it to give it a more in depth review)

It oversimplifies it's message but is an effectively emotional story. The final shot with the song is just perfect. Clint's direction is as strong as always but his performance here is one of his best. It's a shame he didn't got nominated for an oscar that year.

Didn't like it. Not a bad movie but didn't hold my interest. Some of the acting was god awful. Not sure where all the money went.

I like it, don't love it.

 

I will say though, that I laugh throughout this movie at some of stuff Clint says in it.  

 

Also, what happens to Clint in the end made me tear up and cry a little.

Eastwood manages to turn Lifetime scripts into respectable dramas.

Dunno how he does it.

I watched this again randomly on TV and its a pretty solid coming of age drama.

 

Its nothing really cool its just "Eastwood' looms large in the film that really makes it any  different.

 

Perhaps I am biased as I had a crazy white Italian neighbour who has very hard on me but taught me a lot of things as a young kid lol
