It is just a big question mark, Illumination hasn't launched a single, non-sequel holiday hit yet (holiday as in Thanksgiving/Christmas), not to mention against a monster competition like something Star Wars related, so it'll be a good test bed to find out how strong the brand power is.

 

The problem of predicting the performance of the family films is that it's harder to see if the buzz is generated or not among the target demo since most of us don't belong in that demo.

That's probably why we couldn't really see Moana's pre-buzz either.

I like "Set It All Free" mostly because you don't usually get original alt-rock songs on kids movie soundtracks, but if it were something one of my favorite bands did I'd probably accuse them of selling out

Pretty much, they cheered after just about every act in the finale.

I only saw the first 20 min at the Venice film festival but I do hope they kept the Japanese cats which appeared very briefly but made me burst laughing.

Friend of mine just watched it with his kid. Apparently the final act concert is a mega high point for the movie, everyone will exit the movie in high spirits for sure. His kid loved it and wants to watch it again when it releases.

 

If they do a singalong version late release, this will make bank.
