Not necessarily. Blue eyes in anime doesn't always represent actual eye color. I'm pretty sure she was portrayed as Japanese in the first anime movie.

Is it possible that some manga artist and Japanese animators like Caucasian features so they model characters after whites?

Sometimes the obvious answer is the correct answer.

Anyway, if the Japanese so frequently have blonde or blue eyed characters they probably would've cast ScarJo themselves if they had the chance.

Yes it was highly psychological with a a decent amount of action.

Whats this films budget, does any know? It will need at least 100m.

No. The major MOTOKO KUSANAGI is definetely japanese. And anime is a stylization, considering most japanese have a twisted racial fetish for caucasian traits or whatever (like blue eyes are caucasian only...sigh) because it is exotic but it's a kind of ideal they project themselves onto. It represents themselves. Unless it is specifically mentioned, the characters aren't caucasian but japanese. And she's not blonde.

(japanese girls can bleach their hair too)

I'd say a brunette ScarJo looks more like the major from the anime film than a Japanese actress with blue contacts.

 

Then again there's probably not too much of a difference so people are complaining about nothing.

If this does more than Lucy, it's cause people have just totally fallen in love with ScarJo.

Cause really, there's no reason to think this is a shoein to beat that number.

Granted, there was no reason to think Lucy would do half that amount. This is all on ScarJos popularity...the IP this is based on is not why this is gonna hit those numbers. And people wonder why she's starring in this...seriously.

I was talking about the scope and that it warrants a good release date. LUCY was a surprise hit but August is usually a dull month for openers except for its first weekend.
