Don't want to derail this thread too much, but the visuals weren't the issue. I thought Interstellar generally had a more engaging story and a more consistent tone. I got a faint sense Ridley at times was trying way too hard to be "light"

The cheesy young geek saving everyone plot device and the incredibly jarring use of fast motion to show the JPL building the communication setup come to mind as "try too hard" moments

Both are sci if films that opened in the fall. The comparision is inevitable especially after being released only a year apart.
