I agree. The visuals were much better. Mars is so bleak, especially compared to the planets in Interstellar. I expect to see red.
Don't want to derail this thread too much, but the visuals weren't the issue. I thought Interstellar generally had a more engaging story and a more consistent tone. I got a faint sense Ridley at times was trying way too hard to be "light"

I don't get the interstellar and Martian comparisons. They are 2 completely different films that both happen to feature space travel.

Both are sci if films that opened in the fall. The comparision is inevitable especially after being released only a year apart.

ok now wait just a gat darn second. interstellar's planets were literally the most boring things i have ever seen
