So what? Do you really think the name makes a difference? 'From the Director of Pirates of the Caribbean' or 'From Gore Verbinski' people still would ask themselves, 'Oi, dude, what other movies did that guy make apart from those 2 sucky sequels? Nothing much, huh?".

As for the bankability and the roles you take. DiCaprio is going for award roles, mostly. Jay Gatsby was an exception, but everything is an awards role. He doesn't care for the money, he cares for the awards. Just because those roles meant either working with Scorsese or Tarantino and having a success at the box office, doesn't mean he was the box office draw entirely. He is a draw, but those big names also helped a lot. Tarantino has quite the fanbase, and let's not talk about Scorsese.

I'm done talking about this with you.  You make no sense.

This comment actually made me laugh. Funny that's coming from the guy whose arguments aren't even explained (Lone Ranger was not being marketed as a Gore Verbinski film but as a film from the director of Pirates of the Caribbean - What fucking difference does it make? Please enlighten me...)

Nope, you're being obtuse.  Sorry, not going to explain something over and over again and something that is so plain and simple that it's infuriating to have to repeat it even once.  You're a smart poster, you can figure it out.

Oh, gimme a break. The only obtuse person here is you, the one who just shuts down arguments by saying 'You don't make sense' without explaining shit and then claiming you actually explained and don't want to repeat yourself. (Until you consider 'You're not making sense' explaining things, which... you know it isn't, right?)

Oh boy, what the hell happened in this thread?I'm a bit confused right now.

DiCaprio isn't a draw.  Martin Scorcese is.

Move along.

Here's Scorsese's grosses.  Look at all his films that don't have Leo in them.

And no one is a draw in these days if they aren't in the right movie. It is a fact. I would consider the closest person to a draw being DiCaprio right now, with Pitt in a close second, but they both have their share of flops too (J. Edgar, Killing Them Softly). And the Downey Jr., Cruise, Depp, Smith group is behind them, but they are all 4 still huge.

Transcendence when was greenlighted was supposed to be a 90-110M DOM hit, live Oblivion, so hiring Depp, a big star like Cruise, made sense. Obviously things didn't went according to the plan. The movie is a complete turd and WB's marketing campaign (or lack of it) didn't helped either.

I am curious to see this one's OS run. I was expecting around 175M a few months ago, a week ago I dropped that to 120-130M, and now I think it may fail to pass the 100M OS.

Looking at Marvel Phase 2 comparisons, IM3 made 65M more from this point, with a weekend which was 10M more than Cap 2. Thor 2 made 40 more with the help of Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday boosts. So splitting the difference and compensating for the holiday boost, Cap 2 should end up with 245-250 by the end, especially since direct competition in the form of TASM2 will hit late legs.
