Maybe it just didn't catch on. Happens.

True. Still you gotta feel pretty bad for him. The 4 shows he's done since Frasier have all been cancelled.

At least he's in in the next Transformers movie (not that it'll help his career, being in a Transformers movie did wonders for Patrick Dempsey's career after all).

Yes, he must be feeling really bad with all his Frasier money. Let's all feel sorry for him.

Que? Um, Big Mommas House is a personal favorite among the black crowd. I remember my mom taking me to it when I was 6. The black community loves Martin Lawrence, hence why Martin is still going strong on TV. Kevin Hart is the new Martin Lawrence, movies and TV. His show on BET gets great ratings and his movies are now hit after hit, and hes now been able to break out to other races. Most of us, like 95%, dont care what critics (or Spike Lee) think, and would rather sit through something enjoyable and lighthearted like Big Mommas House than something like Butler or 12 Years that just shows pain and tension. I havent even gotten the patience to watch 12 Years yet. I only watched Django so fast because it was part comedy. Why would I sit through black people getting whipped and beaten for 3 hours when I can sit through black people fucking around in Vegas for 90 minutes? Because its "an Oscar movie?" Yeah call me when BET and VH1 airs 12 Years. VH1 is airing TLAM this weekend and BET is airing a TLAM2 special tonight.Who gives a shit if TLAM2 has a 24%? It's going to satisfy black (and other) audiences this weekend, and make money. And thats all that matters. I dont know if youre black or not, but if you are, I dont know what black people you hang around. Yes we want more roles, but we're not snobby in our choices like you think.

Big Momma's House part 3 made 38 million domestic.  The Butler made 117 million domestic.

3 mainstream, wide release movies have had an African-American as the main character so far this year (out of 68 mainstream movies).  These 3 movies have RT scores of 18%, 23%, and 69%.  Average out the 3 movies and you get an average RT of 37%.  Spike Lee was correct when he said that films like 12 Years a Slave or The Butler are really rare for the movie industry to make.  They are not the norm.  These 3 movies are the norm, or something dumb like Big Momma's House, Bad Boys 2, etc.  The movie industry should stop having such low standards for African-Americans who go to the movies.  They deserve better movies.  To be fair, people of all races go see dumb crap like Transformers sequels in high numbers, but at least Caucasian people get to star in a wide variety of movies and roles.

This is a completely inane statement. Those "dumb" films for black people make a hell of a lot more $$$ than the critically acclaimed films. This also goes for Caucasian targeted films as well. Hollywood is a business so they are going to make films that people want to see. So if either race wants to blame anyone for the amount of "dumb" films targeted at them, they need only look in the mirror.

, okay.

Well he's clearly been trying to replicate the success of the Fraiser, without much luck. I guess I don't feel sorry for him, more like he's a  little bit "unfortunate".

Part 3? Seriously??? The only reason Part 3 was made was because the first two made over 250m+ combined when you adjust for inflation. You seem to think Hollywood would lose money to further racial oppression.

LOLz

Nope.  The more intelligent / acclaimed movies get fewer screens.  They are not usually the wide releases with 2,500 or so screens.  The more intelligent ones tend to get / generally get 500, 1000, or maybe 1500 screens.  Putting them on fewer screens and giving them small budgets makes a statement that people should care about them less.  Let's see the movie industry put a movie starring an African-American in an intelligent film like The Hunger Games, with a gigantic budget and 3,700 screens.

So the amount of screens dictates how much a film makes? Once a films gets a wide release(over 800) it's pretty much everywhere. It may not be a few blocks away, but if the movie is worth it, people will drive a few miles. Do you even know what you're talking about?
