That article is from 2005. Things are a little different in 2014.

 

Pokemon is a hugely profitable franchise but it doesn't have the merchandising it necessarily once did that Star Wars still has (there's still plenty of merchandising though).

Just the videogame size of the franchise has out powered SWs..24billion in 2009... This doesnt include the movies, TV shows,  and toys sales...lol. Total revenue as of 2009 30+Billion dollars. Networth 30Biillion. SWS entire franchise networth 5billion..lol
