Magic
MI4 and Dragon Tattoo may end up doing ok. Other than the delightful Alvin drop there isn't much to talk about.
FTF
It's because I'm the family movie Grinch. (well mostly)Ah ok well that makes sense then haha. And hopefully MI4 and Dragon Tattoo overperform next weekend to counter SH2 and Alvin3 underperforming this weekend. iceroll
This was supposed to be the weekend that brought everything to life... so much for that.
spizzer
WowAlvin's number is looking really weak right now. Following Alvin 1's IM, this is looking at a $23.6 million weekend

spizzer
Does anyone have the midnight numbers for the first Sherlock Holmes?I'm trying to do a comparison study, and it would be helpful to have the number
Chrestomanci
Does anyone have the midnight numbers for the first Sherlock Holmes?I'm trying to do a comparison study, and it would be helpful to have the numberI doubt that it would be terribly useful. Midnights for SH1 would have been on Christmas Eve which is a really poor movie going day.

Magic
When is the US economy going to pick up already? I'm sick of this Global economic crisis. I've been hearing about it for years through my tv and computer machines and I'm sick of it.

Comparing them without the midnights is difficult as well, because the opening day of the first is already heavily inflated due to Christmas day. ecstasy
Wow Sherlock really is in trouble. Terrible opening. I wasn't that happy with the first one but a lot of people seemed to love it. Thought for sure it would do better. Good for MI4. Looks like that one will be big.

raspberrysquid
Next Wednesday: a sequel probably a lot of people don't care anymore, a family movie based on something almost nobody knows in America and a movie based on a dark/adult book with Daniel Craig... This Christmas will be epic... What sequel?
raspberrysquid
And am I missing something? Why are people saying SH2 is bad while MI4 is good when the former outgrossed the latter? :-SAnd what is this "large screen" format only for MI4? AniNate
Because MI4 is only in 400 theaters this weekend while SH2 is in over 3000. MI4 is opening in IMAX theaters first and is expanding wide on Wednesday. Edited December 17, 2011 by tribefan695
spizzer
Okay, I used an approximation for SH's theoretical midnight, and pegged it at $3 million. This suggests that SH2 is on pace for a $41.7 million weekendOverall, this is going to be a difficult comparison, due to them opening in different weeks, but I'll see what I can manage Edited December 17, 2011 by spizzer
spizzer
The only comparison I'm seeing for SH2 from the last several years is National Treasure 2. It has Christmas in middle of its first week and New Year's in the middle of its second, but its similar
