Weeknd Official Est: Apes 2 - 73M | Friday Numbers and Saturday Numbers on Page 1

I call Transformers money well spent.  I know I'm going to be entertained.  That's why I go to the movies.

And TF4 was exactly what I needed in the day after I did an exam that didn't go so well and I knew I was going to fail. It was entertaining. Me and my friends had fun with it.

This is the summer of the non multiplier.  With a 70 mill opening, it would need north of a 3.5X for it to hit 250.  Not likely imo.

I don't know. The next two weekends look to be almost complete nonevents, which will be help this. This is probably the only "blockbuster" this summer that actually has room to develop legs.

For purely selfish reasons, I hope APES comes in at 69.9 with actuals.

Shame on you Tele, shame on you!

But I actually think I hope that as well, I don't remember what I answered

I love how the Summer Game has made greedy, selfish bastards out of so many members here.

There's always competition.  Just because there isn't a movie directly competing against it, doesn't mean there won't be other options.  And furthermore, this summer is just strange.

The next two weekends are going down in history as the two most legendary Summer weekends ever. Planes 2, Purge 2, Sex Tape, Hercules and Lucy. I honestly think Planes 2 will do very, very well, but the rest... Sex Tape may turn into another Bad Teacher, tho.

Burton's Planet of the Apes made more money than Rise and probably Dawn adjusted for inflation.Does that mean Hollywood shouldn't attempt skillful and layered storytelling?

Thanks for not understanding my point.

Sometimes quality has to be pretty high, some other times it has to be low. It just depends on what kind of audience you try to attract. If you want to make a billion out of Transformers, go for the safe bet and let Bay create his usual 2hr-long tv-spot. You can't be sure of how audience will respond to a more structured work. Films like Star Trek rely more on a standard around or above the average. A sequel to the Burton film you mentioned wouldn't have been successful, and therefore the best idea was to reboot the subject after a lifting. There are different cases.

Not necessarily.

Note the word 'could' in my post.

Well, quality is subjective. I haven't seen Apes yet, but I can almost certainly say I will like it more than TF2, but that doesn't mean that everybody has to.

Only if you let the limits of your perspective judge for you. "I liked it" and "It's a good films" are not the same thing (everyone who can't understand this on his/her own is 'refuted')...and more than that, haven't you ever said "It was a piece of trash, but I liked it" or the opposite?

Besides, the subject does not exist, and so nothing is 'subjective'. But that's another story.

You're probably right. I still think this one has an advantage the others don't, but at this point, I kind of give it all a shrug.

There was room for most of the films this summer to develop far better legs than they did.  Other movies have with far greater competition in previous summers.  That's why B.O. is so greatly down.

Obviously families have been waiting for Planes 2 this summer. Dragon who?

I actually think Sex Tape will do very well. The market is kind of starving for an (appealing) comedy right now, and Diaz showed with The Other Woman that she is still capable of pulling in audiences with the right role.

Not in the first seven weeks there weren't. Once again, just awful, awful scheduling all around.

Planes 2 has an very good marketing campaign. I have seen some very good trailers and TV spots. I loved Dragon 2 but I do have to agree that the marketing was weak. We should have seen the disappointing number coming.
