Just because a movie made some profit doesn't mean that it was successful. MoS and BvS bombed critically and commercially speaking. BvS was literally expected to gross the double of what it actually did and MoS BO was far from a huge number for the character's caliber but an improvement compared to the previous releases. But when we look at the $225 million budget and $40 million profit, it's rubbish (it's half of Shazam's profit even with nearly double in BO). Not to mention the fact that BvS profit wasn't even top 10 in 2016.

BvS was responsible for everything that went wrong with the franchise. It all didn't worked. We can blame WB of course because they in fact have part in this but Snyder never was the best option to operate our universe. His vision and direction were rejected by the GA and lots of fans it was clear.

You're taking at face value profit estimates from a website that became a running joke in this very own forum for their weekend estimates.

WB put BVS, Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman in production just based on Man Of Steel's performance. BVS went on to make $874 million at the worldwide box office on a $250 million budget. Calling these movies commercial bombs is simply absurd.

The only profitable Superman movies in the last 35 years were MOS and BVS, both directed by Zack Snyder. WB hired the directors of X-Men and The Avengers, and lost money with their takes on the character.

These are the facts and they are undeniable.

Why, then was Snyder basically pushed out of the DC franchise and regulated to a courtesy Producer spot after JL?

You don't seem to get that it all about expectations. and BVS did not do what Warner expected.

BVS did 600 million under expectations at least. Epic fail after first weekend

All things considered, BvS had a pretty underwhelming OW. Its Friday numbers were huge, but then it dropped like a rock through Saturday and Sunday, and it never recovered from that. The movie should’ve at least topped the OW of DH2, but it didn’t.

Uh, not really. Its Opening was excellent. It's just that some users on this forum were making stupid crazy predictions based on their love for superheroes.

BVS opened higher than every other Batman or Superman movie.

Also why "should" it have beaten Deathly Hallows 2? A film which was the final movie in that series, series which itself was record breaking and huge.

Seems you are picking DH2 just because that's the next highest opening. Bit arbitrary.

Its opening wasn’t really “excellent.” Not only was it extremely front-loaded, but it came in well below projections. WB projected an OW of $170 million after the Friday numbers (which would’ve still been pretty front-loaded), and it ended up just barely inching past $166 million. Sure, it had a higher opening than any other DC film, but keep in mind that movies like TDK and TDKR didn’t have Thursday night previews or 3D ticket prices, and in the case of the latter, the Aurora shooting likely had a negative impact on the OW.

The bottom line is that after the Friday numbers, the movie dropped off pretty quickly.

Good Friday inflated Friday numbers

I completely forgot about that. In that case, I guess the opening weekend wasn’t a complete disaster, but it still wasn’t anything great. I think it’s fair to say that WB was hoping for more.

I think the opening weekend was fine for the time, the problem was after opening weekend.

But anyways,

back on topic.  Make MOS2 please WB!

That is what Napoleon and the other Snyder fanboys don't get It's all about expectations and performing as expected. A great many business execs have lost their jobs not because they lost money for their companies, but they did not make enough;they did not make expectations.

WOnder who the villain would be? Rebooted?Recast  Lex Luthor probably. Just pretend that epilogue to JL never happened.

Just hope whoever is the villain is is as good as Michael Shannon as ZOd was in MOS. He is one of the film's strong points. Shannon is versatile actor, but, let's face it, Villians are his main stock in trade ever since his religious fanatic Prohibition agent in "Boardwalk Empire" (I am pretty sure seeing that is what got him cast in MOS).

Studio expectations for BVS are just speculation. WB never released what they expected from it. Zack Snyder being the only director capable of making profitable Superman films in the last 30 years or so is not an opinion, it's a fact. WB hired Bryan Singer and Joss Whedon to handle Superman when they were considered the best in the genre, and both bombed at the box office.

Warners actoins on Justice League sure as hell indicate they were not happy with BvS's box office .

It seems like Henry Cavill trends every other day at this point. I don’t know what’s caused people to suddenly start paying so much attention to him, but I do wonder if WB is taking note of it.

It's where the Snyder Cut people have focused their attention now.

And ,once gains, a few fans can generate internet traffic well above their actual numbers.

I see that Warners is keeping pretty quiet about this.
