I will say something that is maybe not the most here would agree with, but from looks alone, the first time I looked at Emma Mackey I immediately envisioned her as Lois Lane. She definitely has the looks for the role.

Watch 2 seconds of film from each of them and its obvious Corenswet and Brosnahan would have incredible chemistry together. Mackey would be better for a more solemn Superman.

I don't think they'll have an issue with this being seen as this previous universe. 18 months is a long time. And if the visuals are completely different, it should be a pretty clean transition.

I do think that the general audience won't think about this beyond "Hey, look! A new Superman movie!" Though the movie itself needs to deliver.

interesting hypothetical:

You're in charge. Your job depends on the financial success of the film. Both films would receive an 80% on RT and similar audience score. James Gunn will write and direct the film. The film you choose will open on July 11th, 2025. Which do you choose?

1. Superman: Legacy with brand new cast, serve as launching point for new era of DC.

or

2. Henry Cavill's Superman vs. The Rock's Black Adam film, serve to reignite interest in DC and help allow studio to play out the Gadded, Momoa, and Cavill versions of their characters before eventually restarting.

Which one makes more money in July 2025?

I sincerely hope Gunn and co. fully understand the gravity of what they have to do.

The need a likable cast that will excite Gen Z specifically as well as whom audiences will root for a personal level (so aka no Ezra Miller). The film must satisfy traditional Superman films while also feeling modern and fresh. The film needs a balance of heart, action, comedy and drama. It needs to do what both Goldeneye for James Bond and Batman Begins did for Batman - reinvent while staying faithful. It needs to be original but not so out there that it feels too unfamiliar.

Gunn is definitely capable, without a doubt. But they have a lot of boxes to check.

A "Return of Cavil Superman" film fighting The Rock as a villain which scores an 80% on RT would be a big hit. I certainly hope there aren't people thinking otherwise. It would allow WB to milk the remaining life from Cavill, Momoa, and Gadot's tenures as well. Big picture view, that high profile of a film delivering would change the game for DCU for the next 4-5 years. So the choice isn't all that easy.

I did, however, answer that a solo-Superman film scoring that would likely mean better things for that individual character.

For the love of Rao when will the nightmare end? No I don’t want Cavill or Rock anywhere near this or anyone from the DCEU for that matter. Brand is toxic as hell.

The Rock's Black Adam opened to a healthy $67m. Throw him in as the main villain in a Cavill return and we are legit. talking $120-130m opening weekend which is likely more than LEGACY will do.

Don't dismiss it so quickly.

I'd say a better James Bond comparison would be Casino Royale, but you're spot on otherwise. Gunn needs to infuse this movie with the same level of heart as the Guardians movie.

Yeah honestly, the DCU needs to be a HARD reboot to truly get out from the shadow of the DCEU. No Waller, no Peacemaker, no Suicide Squad, NOTHING that could remind people.

That is dogmatic BS.

WHy shoul dnot they use casting that worked in the pervious DCU. It is actors playing a role. The GA gets that even if the fans don't,

I repeat, the carying over of Judi Dench as M when the 007 franchise did a total reboot worked fine.

Black Adam is currently the highest grossing DCEU film since Aquaman, and a Flash movie that has multiple Batmen is unlikely to surpass it, despite having the benefit of China. I feel like that should count for something. I can’t say a Black Adam vs. Superman film would’ve excited me much though.

way to sweeping a judgement. There are parts of the DCEU the audience liked..Wonder Woman and Aquaman. I see no reason why they should not keep those, just  sever all the references fo the old DCEU.
