You'd be surprised. I worked on a film from a name director about a decade ago that was made for probably 330k-350k.

Well i was exaggerating to be honest :D . Still there are DTV films with bigger budgets than $5mil these days.

I just find it hard to believe, $10mil, $15mil yeah but some of these tiny budget films have some very good cgi in them.

It just with the insane budgets we often get these days for most genres (even rom coms lol), i find it hard to believe these films would get such low budgets, especially for the sequels.

The only reason films cost so much is because of SPFX and salary.  Salary basically goes to SPFX.  On a horror film, a lot of the people working on those films are working for scale or a bit above.  A lot of actors do these films to boost their profile and to make a quick buck,  Horror films are kind of close to guerilla film making.  The shoots are fast and locales are not many.  I too have some experience working on low budget horror films (did so twice in Toronto).  When you cut out a lot of the excess of film making, what you are left with is accommodations, food and equipment.  A film can easily be made for less than 5 mill.

$50M sounds like good # to report for "estimate" for PR needs. But true gross reported tomm will likely be near $48M.

I hear that Paramount is actually including some grosses collected from outer space, too. Interstellar was released day and date in 49 territories in two galaxies, little known fact.

How was Paramount able to collect data? Communication is impossible. Only beacon signals.

Both of these movies should do well in the long run. Interstellar I see finishing around $225 million, and Big Hero 6 around the same.

If IS gets a 4+ multiplier, I'll eat my own ass.
