Sony Hack: Legal Risks for Years to Come

12/10/2014 by Eriq Gardner

Town lawyers are scrutinizing leaked salaries, profitability and accounting numbers as the studio moves to limit potential liability.

The sheer scope of the Sony data breach creates a nightmare not restricted to the realms of embarrassing (candid emails from studio co-chairman Amy Pascal to producer Scott Rudin) or dangerous (47,000 Social Security numbers, including for Sylvester Stallone and Judd Apatow). The massive hack by the so-called Guardians of Peace and ongoing leaks could raise unprecedented legal issues for Sony for years to come.

Also, email leaks show that the studio doesn't believe at all in Cameron Crowe s new movie, saying it 's a shitty script and Crowe forbid anyone to enter in the editing room to salvage the movie.

Probably because filming started in March 2013, and they probably gathered cast in 2012.

At that point, Jennifer Lawrence was only known for The Hunger Games (and the few people who saw Winter's Bone). Meanwhile, Jeremy Renner had just come off two mega hits (MI4, Avengers).

So really, this make sense. Don't know about Amy Adams though.

Amy's America's Favourite Supporting Housewife. There was never a hope that she'd be paid much. She'd always been cast in supporting roles and never got nommed for leading until American Hustle. I'm not surprised Renner got paid more; he's seen as a leading star and he had 2 mega hits.

The article says though it was green lighted after Hunger Games hit and it had to be a bit of a concern since the e-mails are talking about it being potentially unfair.  I could see Renner who was at the time being courted to head franchises etc though being paid more than Adams even though she was a lead.

Also it's in context to the salaries leaked of 6,000 employees at Sony that reportedly show a pattern of gender pay disparity.  Even between the co-presidents, there's a $2.4m to $1.5m salary disparity between male and female.

That was after the movie was done being made. Who is marketed the most doesn't figure into the actors salary.

Also, it wasn't their actual salary. It was the back end points. The 3 men and the director got 9% each and the 2 women got 7% each. Initially, Lawrence was actually 5% but got bumped up to match Adams. These percentages weren't of the total gross but for a pooled percentage of that gross.
