TServo2049
Kingdom of the Sun -> The Emperor's New Groove. Nuff said. The voices were recorded, the songs were recorded, it was into animation when they changed direction. (Though they had to scramble to get it out for Christmas, it wasn't put on indefinite hold like B.O.O., and Me and My Shadow before it) Edited January 24, 2015 by TServo2049
Jonwo
Even if they did, it has to have someone like Spielberg or Peter Jackson attached. That's the only way all the people who ignore animation will take it seriously. Spielberg directed Tintin but that was a family film and motion capture. Thing is, what can be told in animation that can't be done with live action that could lure the big name directors? Kingdom of the Sun -> The Emperor's New Groove. Nuff said. The voices were recorded, the songs were recorded, it was into animation when they changed direction. (Though they had to scramble to get it out for Christmas, it wasn't put on indefinite hold like B.O.O., and Me and My Shadow before it) That film turned out pretty well considering the issues they had behind the scenes. AniNate
Something like A Wrinkle in Time could lure a big director. It is aimed at kids, but it's extremely weird and the studios would probably balk at making a faithful adaptation without some pedigree.
TServo2049
Disney has had the rights to A Wrinkle in Time for quite a while. Jennifer Lee is scripting, but I thought the assumption was that it would be a live-action film. Honestly, going animated for it wouldn't be a bad idea. As long as they do it justice, and make an adaptation that just happens to be animated/Disney. But as far as it being animated AND getting a major director? No idea... dudalb
A Wrinkle In Time would be an interesting project, but the problem is it would be a fairly risky one....and Dreamworks cannot afford risky projects. They have no margin for error anymore. They have no choice but to play it fairly safe.
TServo2049
I told you, it's already in development at Disney, ostensibly in live-action, with Jennifer Lee (Frozen) writing.

Chriss
A lot went wrong with Dreamworks. In most cases you can blame the marketing. On the other hand, that release date of Penguins of Madagscar was horrible.
TServo2049
BOM hasn't updated the schedule yet, on their Facebook they told me they only had "confirmation" for B.O.O. being off the schedule, not any of the other changes. I guess they're not going to change the dates based solely on the official DWA press release?
CelestialFairyIX
Dreamworks will die a slow and painful death if they do not take actions into stabilizing their infrastructure as filmmakers and stop green-lighting poor and inadequate animated films. They need a huge hit, somewhere along the lines of no Shrek 4. A fresh, gargantuan, and adequately executed animated film that will garner the studio a better limelight and may even attract new fans. Currently, their animated films have lost the depth and sense of adventure they were known for. If Kung-Fu Panda 3 loses a considerable amount of money, that will be the start of the big collapse and then the domino effect takes place, destroying the studio internally and externally. They need a fresh and competent idea that will put them back on the same caliber as Disney/Pixar or at least defeat growing rivals.

Clef Ment
What do you mean? http://screenrant.com/how-train-dragon-3-trolls-release-date-2016-2018/ Similarly, the previously-announced DreamWorks Animation films Madagascar 4 and Puss in Boots 2 were not included in the studio’s restructured plan. It’s unknown at this point in time if those films are going to be outright canceled or simply pushed back until the studio is done making the current batch of animated features; as of right now, though, best to presume they’ve been placed on the back-burner too. It's weird. Edited January 24, 2015 by Clef Ment

With 2 a year would think would be out, but why have Larrkins when you got MDGSCR4.
TServo2049
It took months and months for them to move Popeye to TBD, when it was clear it was not coming out in 2015. (They still have stuff like that in-development-hell live-action Max Steel movie listed as "TBD 2015"...) And remember that they still won't attach titles to the untitled DC films (though in that case, it must be because WB announced the release months/seasons with the titles, but never officially announced the exact dates). And even though the titles are known within the industry, even if the studio has not explicitly announced them, Black Mass and St. James Place remain "untitled." BOM can sometimes be weird with date changes, they must have sources they won't change dates unless they get confirmation from. (Back to DWA, it took them until just this week to take B.O.O. off June 5.) Edited January 24, 2015 by TServo2049

Popeye was replaced by The Equalizer in that slot. Even Marvel adjusts release dates although not to the same extent as DWA. WB with the DC films probably will tweak some of the release dates.
TServo2049
But Popeye remained "TBD 2015" until late last year, even though it was put on hold in favor of Hotel Transylvania 2. This has nothing to do with DWA anyway. But still, we all know the dates for the films even if BOM won't fix them yet. BK007
Honestly, besides their 3 sequels, which I have faith will do well due to the talent involved, their three original projects look like they might lose more money. And they really cannot afford to keep losing money. At this rate, I hope they can make it to 2018 for Dragon's finale and then be done with it. The whole structure is rotten. Larikins has some potential with the direction it can take but Boss Baby? Trolls? Dreamworks don't have any innovators or directors with identities. They seem to have journeymen directors instead. Basically, anyone can do their job. Having said that, Pixar are also struggling with getting any new blood at the helm.
dudalb
What about Madagascar 4? It's been put on hold, along with the Puss N Boots sequel. I think the disappointing performance of Penguins of Madagascar is making DreamWorks take a second look on the whole franchise, wondering if that well has gone dry.
