I mean, it's imperfect but the last wave of madness left me with a huge smile. Audiences won't like this... It ain't mother! though. That was, yeah... Well, it almost felt crafted to repulse a large audience. Hell, kind of think that was part of its intent. This one's more in line with abstract sci-fi like Under The Skin and Upstream Color. Sure, it's got some astounding imagery and a brutal horror scene or two along with an action scene or two. But, this isn't for a wide audience.

Maybe they should have done a full Netflix release (instead of just international) since Mute is looking like a dud.

It's rough goings with Mute for me so far. Been stopping and starting it due to my interest fading. But, no. Very, very glad this was in theater near me. Really great on the big screen.

That's good to hear about Annihilation. I just think Netflix could have done a better marketing campaign like with they did with Bright and Cloverfield if they had a full release.

How similar is this to Arrival?

Hmm. Hard to say without spoiling. I do think Villeneuve and Garland have some similar tendencies/idiosyncrasies as filmmakers and it's more apparent with Arrival than it would be if someone tried to compare 2049. Can't say much more without spilling into spoiler territory.
