All I know is after seeing The Last Witch Hunter trailer this weekend, I've got the 23rd circled on my physical copy calendar. You are going to be staying out of theaters that day? :P
Not with the equally thrilling-looking BURNT coming out the same day!

Hmm...since Martian didn't take the record....what other movie will be the next one to try and successfully beat the October OW-record in the future?

Don't see anything doing it this year, nothing is coming in with any major buzz. It is only a matter of time before we have a major superhero tentpole in every month anyway, so something will take that record in the next 2-3 years.

No. Not while superhero movies continue to have such high 150m budgets. They still have to try to make a profit which means nearly all of them will stay in the summer or winter months.

With The Martian doing Gravity type of business, it begs the question even further as to why Interstellar didn't open a solid 10m or so higher last year? For all intents and purposes it should've been more hyped and had more going for it than either.

It didn't had 3D. With a 45% 3D share it would have been enough to bump it over 50M.

And the marketing campaign was crap.

Sure, but even then it seems a bit disappointing for it still compared to Gravity and The Martian. Again, it seems like it should have opened higher than those not lower.

Big Hero 6 stole Interstellar's thunder.

Yeah, an animated movie that has been pretty much forgotten by most people this year managed to do that.
