In its 2nd frame, Fox’s sequel to Roland Emmerich’s 1996 blockbuster fell 60% for a$40.2M weekend in 64 markets and on just under 17,800 screens. In China, IDRhad to settle for 4th place in its sophomore session. 

 

The UK was the next best hold at $3M and a 49% drop which took it to $13.5M total amid stiff competition from The Secret Life Of Pets and Fox’s own Absolutely Fabulous. Mexico landed No. 2 for an $11.5M cume and Korea dipped to No. 4, also with strong local competition, for a $10.3M running total.

 

Spain, Sweden and Norway saw solid openings. There are four of the Top 10 international markets still to come: France, Germany, Italy and Japan.

That means 300 mill is still possible

25-30 mill from Japan, 25 mill from other current markets and 30-35mill from the markets above should be no problem even with bad legs

With $3.1M in 21 markets, Fox’s return to Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion series has taken the offshore total to $276.8M. Germany held nicely for a $15.8M cume and France is now at $9.2M. In Japan, IDR dipped 49% to take the cume to $24.2M. Italy is the last market to release, on September 8.

 

Comscore reports a WW total of $379.1M. What are the odds of reaching $400M?
