Deadline:

This weekend, Sonycontinues to dominate the autumn box office season – and the 24th James Bond filmSpectre hasn’t even opened yet. The studio is poised to land its fourth No. 1 opener in the last seven weeks with the Village Roadshow/LStar Capital co-productionGoosebumps which is winning Friday with an estimated $7.2M and will likely take No. 1 with an estimated $23.7M-$24.4M at 3,501 theaters.

20th Century Fox’s The Martian is also looking solid tonight placing second on Friday with $6.5M and filing a third weekend of $22.6M per industry estimates that’s a -39% hold. Total estimated cume by Sunday: $144.7M.

Also feeling the sunshine from the fall B.O. is Disney/DreamWorks’ Bridge of Spiesfrom Steven Spielberg.  Even though the film earned an estimated $5.4M tonight per industry calculations, the town expects the film to hit $16.2M in third place; a higher spot than anticipated for this Cold War drama. Earlier today, PostTrak reported that Bridge’s passengers were 57% male and 86% over 25.

Legendary’s Guillermo del Toro gothic horror pic Crimson Peak is coming in below expectations. Friday matinees pointed toward an $8M opening day after the film charted the highest among Thursday night previews with $855K, however, business tapered off this evening, and a B- CinemaScore had a sour impact on word of mouth and scared away business. Crimson Peak’s Friday is at an industry estimate of $5.55M with the film slotting in fifth for the weekend with $14M instead of third place with $18M-$20M which is what the industry was expecting (Uni always saw mid teens).

Holy shit! There's a Bruce Lee movie?

Is it any good?

It's not a Bruce Lee movie, it is a Telugu movie titled Bruce Lee. It stars a big south Indian star and has been pretty anticipated among the Telugu audience.

Deadline instead of admitting their early projections were off on CP are trying to spin that the B- Cinemscore scared people away the SAME night to the tune of being off on their projection by over 40%?   Uh huh

I was just about to post how ridicolous that was, but you already saved me the pleasure.

Deadline just won't admit defeat sometimes.

Emma Stone has about as much star power as JC does, really.

I don't think this is accurate. Chastain is a better actress but she doesn't have any star power.

Emma's "starpower" certainly didn't help Aloha or her string of Woody Allen flops.

Aloha was shit and Woody Allen movies have zero appeal for people who would watch Emma's movies. Crimson Peak is the sort of movie that could've appealed to her under-25 fanbase.

I think the Crimson Peak drop may have a lot to do with the bait and switch advertising. The reviews and the audience reaction is that it is not a horror movie, which is what the advertising was selling. Horror fans probably didn't care for a gothic romance.

Yeah, pretty much, though I don't necessarily blame Universal, since if they sold CP as a gothic thriller / romance, it probably wouldn't have even done 10m OW, just not a very popular genre with today's moviegoers.

Del Toro needs Dark Justice League.

I feel like that could take him to the big leagues.

The moment Del Toro decided to leave the Hobbit, he was doomed to live in the small leagues forever.

Maybe WB should've also marketed Pan as a horror movie.
