titanic is an amazing movie and deserves its success but a disaster like that is a gimmick. but if you don't see that as a gimmick that means mj1 and titanic are the only ones, what kind of elite club...

Both mockingjay 1 and mockingjay 2 had a gimmick. Mockingjay 2 is an imax and the whole two part thing for a movie is a gimmick to make more money.

It's on Deadline. 62K is for the weekend with four theatres estimated at $249K for the weekend. (A 62K Friday for a single theatre would be completely boffo!)

Of course, take all this with a grain of salt... Steve Jobs is sitting on the record PTA for the year and look how that turned out.

No update on Spotlight.

Ew, 62k isn't that good xD Grand Budapest had a 65k Friday average in four theaters.

I'm also missing something: why is Rogan a troll?

Seth Rogen is completely harmless, at least when he's not antagonizing evil dictators.

But I suppose The Night Before always had work cut out for it. JGL and Anthony Mackie are non-draws, while R-rated Christmas movies (and even PG-13 ones) tend to pale heavily in comparison gross-wise to family-friendly ones.

Shit, yes it did. But that's a top ten all time PTA according to Mojo, which sets a pretty high bar. Wes Anderson fans are the very definition of dedicated. Carol is looking to come out somewhere around where Sicario and Spotlight were at and I'd call it a win.

this place provides twofold entertainment, i do like 50% believe that mj1 is the only movie over 300m with no gimmick, but also you guys are so easy to rile up and kind of deserve it if that would bother you so much tumblr_inline_nc0ar4hy4K1qdld5l.gif

i just checked and of the FIFTY-FIVE movies that have ever made over 300m, mj1 (and soon mj2) are the ONLY ones without a gimmick. wow 67d90ee8.gif

A single book being split into two parts is a gimmick in my books.

With a 105m weekend, MJ2 will be hardpressed to even reach 300m.

That's the thing: any other franchise (other than Avengers and Star Wars I guess) and these would be considered great numbers.
