What release date would have been better according to you? Disney created some distance between TGD and both, Peanuts and SW7 + Alvin weekend.

I feel more than the release date the marketing was lighter and not worthy of a 200m budgeted Pixar film.

Put it in Spring 2016, too late now. Maybe it just wasn't meant to be a real Pixar classic.

All movies increased a bit from early estimate but still not great jumps for MJ2 or TGD, both trail comparison points

@BoxOffice: CREED earned an estimated $11.7M on Friday. 3-day domestic total is $24.18M. #Creed

@BoxOffice: THE GOOD DINOSAUR earned an estimated $15.663M on Friday. 3-day domestic total is $32.04M. #TheGoodDinosaur

@BoxOffice: THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 2 earned an estimated $21.25M on Friday. Domestic total is now $168.0M. #Mockingjay #TheHungerGames

Spring 2016 already has Disney's Zootopia and Disney's The Jungle Book.

Loos like Peanuts will barely make a 3x multiplier, very low for a holiday release animated movie.

And considering the monster marketing campaign that started 1 year and a half ago it is clearly a disappointing number.

Maybe there isn't always a reason as to why something does less than what you think it will.  The marketing for TGD seemed pretty strong to me and the release date was terrific.  It' opened against Rocky, about as opposite a demographic as you can get.  Pixar has an unblemished track record, and that is not possible to keep up.  Every studio is going to have their share of under performers.  This just might be there's.

Pixar is gonna be fine. People need to stop being so dramatic. This will still do at least 500M WW. Probably more. And it is between Inside Out and Dory, two monster hits also from Pixar.
