Plain Old Tele
The Academy has a lot more love towards Coppola... Plus it was a substantial period of time later, plus he hadn't done a trilogy already.
riczhang
Up to 9.3 average rating now. Holy shit, at this rate it may set an average rating record. Really bizarre thing though is that it has a fairly dismal 6.9 rating on IMDB right now. Is this gonna be a film critics just adore but audiences hate? Hmm...*wince, that's not a good sign with how the Academy's members, they tend to go more with the general audience sentiment [because don't deny it, many people will tell you that The King's Speech is loads better than The Social Network, only the internet crowd that seem to idolise critical opinion think otherwise], and not quite as much the critics [though they can be a good influence], so that's actually kind of disappointing because while it isn't an exceptional movie, more like an 8.5 max, it is so much better than just a 6.9. Maybe it's just a weird fluke and it will get to a higher rating as more come in.

It may end up being an art house crowd-pleaser AND a critical success.
riczhang
Supposedly BOTSW was a big audience fave at Sundance. It may end up being an art house crowd-pleaser AND a critical success. The screening was more like there wasn't really anyone who didn't like it, and people who did love it were exceptionally vocal about it....... At least that was what I got from the reaction at my screening.

acsc1312
Inception got a bp nom. If TDKR is as operatic as has been let on, there's a definite chance it could get nominated. TA is too fun and campy for a bp nom.
riczhang
Inception got a bp nom. If TDKR is as operatic as has been let on, there's a definite chance it could get nominated. TA is too fun and campy for a bp nom.Yes Inception was, but that picture though still complicated and not highly Acadwmy friendly is definitely 100 times more friendly than any of the Batman films. And despite hiring most precursors Nolan still for snubbed for Director. Also, this is absolutely unconfirmed and completely rumor based but The Dark Knight disn't just miss out of a Nomination, it wasn't anywhere near one, for example Doubt I was told ended up ahead of The Dark Knight. Kvikk Lunsj
If doubt was ahead of TDK in 2008 I do not see how Avengers gets a best picture nomination. I can not see it getting the 5% of 1st place votes.

I can not see it getting the 5% of 1st place votes.5% makes it easier actually IMO, if Disney can get just 200 people to put in as 1st, then it's most likely in, it's a lot easier than getting let's say 2000 people ranking it in their top 5. This year Oscar films look better.

Impact
Well the thing to remember about Potter is-that it was the 8th film of a franchise.Speaking of which-only one franchise had more films that never won a oscar till later then Potter. The Franchise? Star Trek. Few of the films were nominated-yet never won till the 11th film. The Muppets did not win a Oscar till last year. MovieMan89
TDKR has less of a chance than TA in my opinion. I think reviews will be significantly worse.
pixiesvision
I don't understand why anyone would think The Avengers would get a nod. Just because a movie is good doesn't make it an automatic shoo-in for the Oscars. TA is not the type of film the Academy would recognize. Like Dexter of Suburbia mentioned above with HP, tons of people were vocal about the Potter series getting some sort of recognition with their final film. People wanted to see Alan Rickman for supporting, Best Picture, to no avail. Potter is still more of an AMPAS friendly film than TA, IMO. You have to recognize the people who make up the AMPAS first, and realize that they don't just nominate a film because it was good, or the fact that it made a lot of money. Seriously, look at movies (in this case blockbusters) in the past that were good/great that weren't recognized. Fans are pushier now for films they love to get consideration, but there is a difference in a movie being a realistic shot to a long shot. pixiesvision
Yeah, I'm a bit puzzled by any Avengers Best Picture talk.I think it's certain fans just pushing the idea when it's not realistic at all. Some people last year even thought Captain America and X-Men: First Class had a chance.
