Weekend Actuals: The Force Awakens - 90.2M !!!

Recommended Posts

So far til this year....we got 24 movies that made over more than $1B WW in movie history. And sometimes there are several ones that are considered good by critics & audience alike.

Imagine a few more movies and we'll get a top 30 highest grossers that consists nothing but billionares.

WED JAN 6. That shd be the day when breaks Avatar's all-time domestic record. Just 3wks after opening!

????

Gitesh is almost always conservative with his projections, sometimes to a fault.

edit: in this case, he's going off the total from the official weekend estimates (740.2m) and probably figuring around 7m for today, 7-8m for tomorrow, which would bring the total to 755m or so, passing AVATAR on Wednesday. If actuals come closer to Rth's number and it holds a tink better than Gitesh expects, it could pass it Tuesday.

I believe Starz bought the first TV rights to TFA.

It's the final movie in Disney's Premium TV window for Starz. Starting with The Finest Hours Netflix gets Disney movies in the Premium TV period.

I guess Netflix will not be happy about that (not that that would change anything, but the chance to miss so near...)

Yeah....true.

A normal $1B WW...is not that impressive anymore.....because we get billionares every year now. :D

Typically I'd say 1.5 billion was the new billion but four movies crossed that benchmark in 2015 making it look easy. :P

Next year, we'll get the ones that are easy definite billion dollar-grossers. :)

Finding Dory, Batman VS Superman & Captain America 3.

Others will get the $1B mark, too.....but they need more advantages.

I think $2b WW is the new $1b WW. TFA has a great chance, but many developing economies (which is the main reason for OS #s explosive growth) don't look like they are going to be in a great spot over the next few years. This not only means potentially less consumer spending, but also worse exchange rates (we are seeing that now) as the dollar is extremely strong and only becoming more so. I don't think we'll see a ton of movies cross the $2b WW barrier over the next few years.

I think ppl underestimate in a big way the boom local movies have in at least some of the key markets

Open Road

Spotlight                      $1,185,093                9%       385  -95      $3,078      $27,108,972

.

Universal

Legend (2015)                  $13,650              -43%        13   -6      $1,050        $1,865,774

.

Freestyle

The Letters $5,037 97% 6 -1 $840 $1,632,464

1.6 billion is still very hard to achieve.

But I think 2 billion will become the magic number as more movies begin to cross 1.6 billion regularly.

Probably by 2020 if not sooner.

But what about the actuals for previous week's updated estimates?

I think that gets all cleaned (term?) with this one. We will have to look into the per day details, when they are finally up

I post the details (for now, as usual, starting with the smaller ones) as I find them. If there is one you like to see more immediatly (out of the posted ones) I can link you to the dailies too
