not necessarily. Where I live Rev and TFA will split the IMAX screen. TFA has the 11am and 6pm, Rev has 2pm and 9pm. I dont see this hurt SW much, people who want to watch TFA in IMAX they stilll can. In fact some people (like me) may see the reduced showings this week and decided to catch it in IMAX before it drops completely.

 

Honolulu is a fairly soft market for Star Wars too. I was not seeing nearly the amount of sellouts here OW as we saw other places in the country.

TFA is only losing 312 theaters. Sisters and H8ful are losing around 550, Concussion loses over 1k, Point Break loses nearly 1.5k, and TBS, Joy, and Alvin are losing in the 700's.

That TC for 13 Hours gives me no hope of a number above 16M. Norm of the North is gonna tank with 7-8M.

Avatar's already been topped, even on the low end (DHD 3rd weekend report suggests average ticket price of almost $11.00, not sure how accurate that is).  ESB/ROTJ first run (according to BOM anyway, about 78/80M tickets respectively) are pretty much topped as well.  TPM 1st run (~85M tickets) will be topped with high 800M.

The Purge hit 34m with it, Ride Along did 41.5m with a few hundred more, Lion King 3D release hit 30m with that theater count, 8 Mile did 51.2m with it (in 2002), Coach Carter did 24m with a little more, Bourne Identity did 27m, Mama did 28m, etc.

 

There isn't a heavy precedent for it, but quite a few films manage it.
