While today a revered film director and respected actor, Ben Affleck has had some ups and downs in his career. his first onscreen role was  in the drama film The Dark End of the Street  (1981). although he didn't really come into the ear of the public until the 1990s, he played a supporting, but memorable role in Richard Linklater's Dazed and Confused (1993), which would go on to become a cult hit. he also appeared in the film School Ties in 1992. and had a supporting role in Good Will Hunting (1997), a film which he co-wrote with Matt Damon and gained his first oscar nomination and win for the screenplay. he then starred in the hit action sci-fi film armageddon in 1998. as well Shakespeare in love that same year. however after starring in several duds like Gigli (2003) (which is considered one of the worst films ever made) and Daredevil (2003). his career took a bit of a misstep, however he used that time to slowly build a presence as a director, directing three critical hits Gone Baby Gone (2009), The Town (2010) and Argo (2012). starring in the last two the latter of which won best picture at the 2013 academy awards.

 

Ben has since built his career as an actor as well playing in the critically acclaimed drama in Gone Girl (2014). most notably in 2014 it gave way to much controversy when he was cast as Batman in Zack Snyder's Sequel to Man of Steel Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. having over a year to build hype it was one of the most anticipated films of 2016. and upon release it was met with brutal reviews from critics, and a mixed and diffusive response from fans, ranging from loving the film to loathing it and although it opened well, it closed it's run under exceptions with $872m world wide.
