Ask to his 3 Box Office hits released last year

He only had two hits and neither had anything to do with his "drawing power." Child 44 was a dumped dud and Legend stalled in limited release.

That said, he's certainly building a nice profile for himself, so while he might never achieve "superstar" status, he could become a decent draw on his own if he can finally land the right project in which the spotlight will completely be on him.

Remember 5th Wave just last weekend? It was doomed to fail but it still made over 10m for the weekend because Sony promoted it well.

LOL a $10M opening for a film that was intended to start a franchise is nothing to boast about. That's still tanking. Promoting an unappealing-looking movie more won't make people want to see it more.

Legend was huge in the only country where it had obligation to do well, and yeah, that's what I'm saying, he may not be a big draw for now, but he def has some appeal with the GP, and this appeal must increase even more once that he win his Oscar

The Finest Hours always seemed like an odd fit for Disney. The movie looks to violent for families but at the same time the Disney label is likely to leave adults to assume it's another saccharine/feel-good effort from them. Probably one of those instances where their brand hurt a particular movie more than it helped (not that it was ever gonna be a big hit either way).

Hardy has no shot at winning. It's Stallone's to lose.

Putting it under Touchstone still wouldn't have helped.

Even though Tom's characters in TDKR, Mad Max and Rev are leading antagonist(TDKR, Rev) or leading protagonist(Mad Max) and did a good/great job with all of them (haven't seen Rev but am going by user reviews on the forums), having a positive effect on the film's quality and bo, he was not the primary draw in either of the films.

Talking about the ow (not the legs/final bo),

TDKR - Wouldn't have opened any less if someone else was playing Bane

Mad Max - Established property with a fan-base, directed by George Miller. Tom mattered in the ow but not by much IMO.

Rev - Leo, 'from the director of Birdman'

Inception - Leo, Nolan

So if FH may only open to 8m with that preview number. What will FSOB wind up with, 6m? Thought it might bomb considering its low theater count. A lot of derby scores gonna get hit.

I though FH would do better when I saw 60% on RT

well, it's Hard(y) to say that a star is a real draw these days, since there's always a lot of 'excuses', if a movie do well, most of ppl take everything in consideration, except the actor/actress, let's take JLaw as an example: When SLP and AH did well, everybody said that it was because they're "assembly movies" and because of the Oscar nominations, then, THG was because of the brand, even Joy's success ppl wanted to say that it was because of DOR's name, when the movie was sold on her name alone, so, when we can say that a person is a draw if there's always something behind her to take the 'credits'? I know that he's not the main draw of any of these movies, but he def helped a bit movies like MM or TR, I'm not even gonna talk about Legend, because it was UK only

Disney dumped The Finest Hours, plain and simple. Late January release, little to no marketing  It had no awards prospects which is basically the final nail in the coffin.

But it's not like Joy was some big hit either. It's not even gonna make half of either Silver Linings Playbook or American Hustle, nor will it reach its budget.
