Without a published budget is the assumption that MBFGW2 is doing ok? The first was a lightning in the bottle event with this sequel coming way too late.

However, there are no big names and the first was done for $5m. I can't imagine even with some pay bumps they spent more than $15-20m on this.

 

My wife wanted to see it so we went. It was cute and fun fare. A total wait for DVD film but it was fun!

 

MBFGW2's budget was announced as 18m, which seems like it fits. It's another solid money-maker (albeit nothing close to the original).

Well it earned more than one can predicted. Deadpool is just the most successful movie of 2016, regardless of how CW, Dory or Rogue One will perform. Even if there will be movies above 1B. Deadpool still the event of 2016.

BvS soared past 800M WW recently per BOM. I expect it will hold decently for the next couple weeks.

Looking at the top 100 domestic (and just beyond)

 

Exorcist 2 seems to have the worst retention @ 13.2%

Jaws 2 is at 31.44%

MBFGW2 is currently pacing for 21% as of this weekend....

 

quite a list to be on - and obviously not comprehensive since I am sure I missed sequels somewhere those are just the 2 I could think of from a quick scan of the list.

 

not that MBFGW2 is losing any money mind you.

subjective yes, but there is more precedent for Zoo to have done what it did than Deadpool - since I know thats where you would have gone

Well Deadpool didnt get a China release so it's an apples to oranges comparison there... lol I am not down playing Zoo and some aspects of its run truly defy logic (China being one of them) but other films have done unprecedented things both good and bad so far this year.

Yeh, $800.8m worldwide now. It must have had decent Mon/Tue/Wed internationally, about $4m a day.

The Boss was the only solid performer yesterday at my theatre, doing 3M. We have a deal on Wednesday's which is like a couples deal with 2 tickets, 2 drinks, popcorn and candy for 30 bucks and that's where a lot of The Boss' business came from yesterday.

 

However, everything else was pathetically slow. 1 Zootopia showing only had 6 people  but the theatre was as messy as if there had been 206 no joke. Popcorn in EVERY SINGLE AISLE.
