Oh yeah, every bit as much as it's like an artistic piece of poetry not made to create a profit.

For the record, The Witch must be excellent Children's Day programming too.

So Disney is projecting a 181.8M OW--a bit above my 181M prediction. I had my doubts it would reach that, and thought it would more likely fall in the 177-178M range from last night's Deadline late Sat number.

And Disney is projecting a Sunday drop of -25.6%.

Previous Summer opener drops:

2015 - AoU (-11%, muted Sat due to boxing match)

2014 - TASM2 (-29.8%)

2013 - IM3 (-30.9%)

2012 - TA (-18%, spillover effect)

So they're projecting a closer drop to IM3 and TASM2 because TA and AoU were outliers, but adjusting it to a softer drop perhaps because of mother's day and/or better WOM.

TJB dropped a bit harsher than I expected, but still very good considering the competition and loss of screens.

Except for Mother's Day, none of holdovers made more than 4M. All pretty brutal drops. Yikes.

Wow. ONLY $182M? Oh man, will Marvel be able to get over this flop? I think this is it for the MCU. Kevin Feige is probably cancelling Infinity War as we speak. Only the fifth highest opening of all-time? Man, what ever went wrong??

Disney and Fox are probably enjoying themselves this year so far, and Fox should have a decent summer along with Disney as well. WB should have some decent success with The Conjuring 2, Central Intelligence, and Suicide Squad. The Nice Guys, and War Dogs are toss-ups. Universal won't be as powerful as last year(which was obvious) Neighbors 2, Jason Bourne, and Secret Life Of Pets should be their hits of the summer. Sony still needs to think about marketing better with their films but on the other hand they have potential with 5 films this summer but nothing like big blockbusters outside of Ghostbusters, and Angry Birds. Sausage Party will be a hit and make more $$$$ than Seth Rogen's last two original films like  The Night Before, and The Interview.

Jungle Book actually gained theaters this weekend.
