Those Cap numbers are disappointing. it could end it's run below Im3 at this point, which is absurd. it has way better WoM than that movie. I think having so many characters from other movies and its busy plot is turning off some general movie going audiences.

Hilarious.

What a fycking joke, and it's funny bc CW had like zippo competition till Memorial Day. There was no reason for it to end up below iron man 3.

2.36 multiplier. Ridiculous

With these developments... It's very possible and even likely that The Mermaid will gross more in China ($527M) than any film grosses DOM. Already bested BvS and  CW. Dory won't touxh $500M DOM. Suicide Squad will break out but that won't be enough. Nit buying ID4 2 coming close to that DOM. Pretty much Rogue One is the last hope or China wins.

He'll, I'm rooting for The Mermaid.

Iron Man 3 is beloved and Civil War comes up short with regard to what the people truly love - Trevor.

Should've just called it Iron Man: Civil War, if they wanted a bigger hit. Captain America isn't a super big draw that would earn $600 million at the box office as indicated by The Winter Soldier which only made $260 million compared to Iron Man 3's $410 million intake, actually TWS earned less than Iron Man 1 and 2. Civil War's increase from The Winter Soldier is HUGE domestically and worldwide- it's a rarity for sequels to perform this well. Maybe the next Captain America sequel can outgross Ultron, but it won't reach $600 million. Only Iron Man can hit that target number because his presence alone is carrying The Avengers and Civil War at the box office.

Go back 10 years, people would laugh at you for saying a Captain America film will outgross Sam Raimi's Spider Man film at the box office.

Maybe having 4 mega hits at the box office  between Feb-April has deflated what summer will do. I mean having 4 300+ grossers in summer is impressive, having that in the Feb-April stretch is just insane and many would have said impossible. The GA may already have some blockbuster fatigue even though summer just started. The movie allowance of the average person is perhaps way more drained this year than it normally would be at the start of summer.

Combined with movies in the next month that are either getting lukewarm reception or highly likely to get it, we could be in for a rough ride and lots of disappointments. Thinking I went too high on nearly everything in the game now

Even  though it is called Captain America, it is budgeted and promoted like an Avengers film

Wow. boxoffice.com is predicting just 32.5 M for CA: CW. Tsk tsk piracy. lol

They have over-estimating it so long that they just went to the other extreme.

CWs multi is looking to be atrocious for the quality of movie it is. Very unfortunate, but I do think fatigue is the main factor (both blockbuster and cbm fatigue and possibly MCU fatigue as well).

In the end, it's still a Captain America sequel whether they call it Iron Man 4 or Avengers 2.5. Average moviegoers probably think it's just a Captain America film. Only cbm fans can distinguish between them both. Domestically and worldwide, Iron Man surpasses Cap in popularity by a large margin.

CW is basically an Avengers 3.0 film. Yea it's a really good popcorn film but is it really any different from the past Avengers films we have gotten? No. The general audience will go watch it and realize that and then won't go watch it again. Movies with great legs are movies that require people to go watch them again and again. CW isn't one of those films. Not because it's a bad film but because it's a film with a plot that the general audience has already seen. This makes Zootopia and Deadpool's runs all more impressive, in my opinion.

How much more would The Nice Guys have made OW had it starred Leonardo Dicaprio and Ryan Gosling or Denzel Washington and Michael B. Jordan or Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence (The Nice Gals)? :)

With those stars, the film could have been a hit, but the budget probably would have been bigger.

Has any film this year opened to >10m and had a >3x multiplier other than Zoo and 10CL?

I assume you meant over 20m right? There's also KFP3 and JB. But yeah, basically only family aimed films are doing it this year. Maybe we really are reaching the point where streaming services are too popular for movies to have any real legs at the BO anymore. People will just wait, and the more they wait the sooner movies leave the theater so it's not even much of a wait these days. All about the opening more than ever.
