Believe me, I worked in a cinema, I know they are not trying to be 'economically efficient' - but choosing to buy all that food strips them of any right to complain about having to spend loads of money on food.

People have always been this way. When I worked at cinema the same thing happened. It happens when you go out and people want alcohol at bar or club.

Okay maybe you don't want your kids to be complaining about being hungry, so you buy them a small $3 kids size popcorn or biscuits or whatever and drink. You have two kids that's $6 Where is this $40 coming from? Why do YOU have to have the biggest 1500 calorie box of popcorn & 1 litre full-fat coca-cola for yourself just so that your kids don't complain. Doesn't make any goddamn sense, you fat fucks.

Geez, how hard is it for you to realize that not everyone thinks exactly the same as you do?

Seeing a movie in your early 20s with no care other than your own desires is completely different than seeing a movie with your family.

A small popcorn costs 5 where I live. Adult tickets are like 10, and kids are eight.

Where do you live that popcorn only costs 3 dollars.  Dude they charge 8 dollars just for a bottle of water!!!!

there are usually small childrens portions at much lower prices - not that you would ever notice the small portion, by the sounds of it.

And I'm sorry but I do not believe any cinema near you charges $8 for a regular bottle of water. if it's so expensive and you have to eat and drink then bring food from home or buy it in a supermarket. you ain't gona get stopped and searched lmao, you are not that important

Okay so that's $10 to give your whining kids popcorn. Not $40.

Some of my friends with kids the issue becomes more time than money.  They're shuffling their kids off to various activities that it doesn't always leave time for movies

Great expansion for Love & Friendship. Everyone in the theater was so surprised when the Amazon logo appeared. "Huh? They make movies? Amazon?"

It will be interesting to see how Amazon does in the theatrical space in the next couple of years. They have some very promising projects working with some great talent.

Tree, you're starting to step over the line with your casual judgements.  Ease up.

It still a big amount if you do it every or twice a month.

it's about the same or a little more as taking the family out for fast food but without the eating.  i hope people aren't trying to get their nutrition at the theater, i mean having one of their daily meals there (consisting of popcorn, nachos, candy and soda).  many if not most families eat out (casual or fine dining) once a month or more (they don't want to cook, or it's someone's birthday, or maybe they just like eating out), and as someone mentioned before it is much more expensive, about 3-10x as much.

I ordered a personal pizza and a drink and it cost me 18 dollars.  I can only imagine how much it costs a family of 4. I was pissed when my female friend demanded I buy her stuff when we saw Civil War.  We're  just friends.... Why do I have to pay?

I'm gonna have to slap myself silly when the damn film, which I saw 600M as the absolute ceiling, crosses a billion in about 2 weeks. It keeps increasing in Japan as well. Incredible run. Not sure if Disney understands the insane potential out of this thing.

I wanna play an open world game to explore the entirety of Zootopia. Get Rockstar to develop it, you have enough money to persuade them :P

At the movies a few years back I saw heading into the theater from the parking lot this father and son going through a checklist of food and drinks to sneak in and put them in their jackets/pants pockets before heading in. Junior and I in a couple of years, everyone.

No, I totally understand that a parent wants their child to have something to eat or whatevs. but I do NOT understand how that equates to buying four massive size popcorns. Going by UK prices (I assume America is actually cheaper), $40 of cinema food is about 7000 calories. Call me arrogant but I'm sorry, NO one needs to eat that much in the space of 90 minutes.
