Actually, I was wrong. Worst May in 18 years. The last time May box office was this low was in 1998

Does anyone even remember what happened in the first Now You See Me at this point? Talk about forgettable.

There is a secret cabal of magicians(whose name I forget) that the Horsemen get invited to join. The whole film was practically a "try out" or initiation.

The whole situation between the Cain and Morgan Freeman characters regarding stolen money and ideas was part of a revenge scheme by this secret organization.

It seems the Horsemen are now recruiting and as per sequel tropes...a new threat has emerged on some front.

I remember my family having to spend 20 minutes after it was over explaining the twist to my mom.

Free State of Jones is getting a surprisingly hefty marketing push from STX. Given the dearth of adult-oriented titles this summer, I wouldn't rule out a very good performance. I'm curious as to how the reviews will be, luckily Gary Ross has a consistent track record.

I imagine Alice 2's performance makes Disney happy that they pulled the plug on Tron 3.

That was a sequel destined to see sharp drops if it ever got made. It kicked and scraped it's way to break even. Not enough people care, the characters were bland and the Jaegars less interesting than an Autobot.

I'm planning on doing a double feature of it and Resurgence. Will be nice to have two films I want to see come out on my birthday.

Save us June from this catastrophe!

I don't see a Jurassic World, San Andreas or Inside Out style breakout coming up in June. Last year also had Spy, Insidious 3 and Ted 2 (it did make 81M) providing good support as well. June will almost surely be down from 2015 as well.

July, I think can match 2015, unless everything continues the bombathon.

Oh, good, I was worried that was still in the works.

It's still "in the works". Won't be surprised if it never sees the light of day though. Earliest it can release is 2018, 5 years after the first, by which time only the internet fans will care.

Interesting that only 47 movies opened in May.  That's almost 30% fewer than last year.

Once you get past number 15 on the charts, the movies have earned 100k or less, wouldn't make a huge dent to the overall box office. Guess more small movies are going direct to VOD.
