Pets is still 12M ahead of Inside Out, and thanks to Minions hitting IO this weekend in its run, it should finish the weekend 11-12M ahead still. 300M looks likely for next Tuesday/Wednesday. Ghostbusters is now 1.3M behind The Heat after opening 7M higher, will most likely end the weekend around 4-5M behind it. Tarzan and Dory continue chugging along, Central Intelligence and Tarzan in a close battle for leggiest live action summer release.

Any updated predictions for Pets total by end of run?

$10 million ($314 million)

$5 million ($322 million)

$3 million ($326 million)

$2 million ($328 million)

$2.75 million/$3.5 million ($332 million)

$340 million DOM

If Suicide Squad does $125 million+ OW, everything will get hurt. Pete's Dragon is in Pets' demo. Kubo will get double features with Pets, so it should hold okay. And Labor Day, plus second-run theaters should get Pets to $340-345 million IMO.

How about you? :)

I don't know a single person who expected it to even get close to STID, let alone match it.

Yeah I agree. But 37-38, maybe 40, behind by 2nd weekend is not much to celebrate either.

Thought 65/185 was on the cards. Looking at 165 I guess. Which is ok.

I don't where it leaves the 4th one. That won't have a lesser budget than this one.

Yes, it's okay. Solid, even. Not super-exciting, but there it is.

We don't really have a clue about what the fourth one will be, budgetarily. It's probably worth holding off on any assumptions for that -- except for a huge budget increase, I suppose.

This summer movie season in a nutshell. Audiences have just failed to get excited for the large majority of the movies. I thought Ghostbusters could have been a big pop culture event, it had everything - nostalgia, decent to good reviews, and a raging controversy which got more eyes on it, turned out the vast majority of people just didn't care about that controversy. No live action movie has captured the zeitgeist at large so far this summer.

I want to go back in time and start the TJB Over (BFG + ICE AGE 5 + ID:R + ALICE 2 + NEIGHBORS 2) club

Those films combined will do ~355 btw. PETS could go over too (small shot).

Wow, Ghostbusters losing almost 1000 theaters in weekend 3. Its not doing that badly to drop a fourth of its theaters. Wonder what effect Bad Moms will have this weekend.

Wow at that theater hold for Pets with all these new releases.

340-345 total is my estimate.  It's losing a million a day to IO everyday, but should have a temporary rebound next week as that was the 1 week when IO's holds were softer because of Minions opening.

But IO had incredible holds after that and Pets won't be able to match.  It won't be a 12 million difference by the end of the weekend but around 10.

The kicker though, is that IO had a HUGE expansion back into 2500 theaters at the end of its run for 2 weeks that got it an extra 7 million

that doesnt figure into current daily tracking at all.

So looking at all of that I think makes 340-345 a pretty good bet for Pets.  Maybe a touch higher.

For me, one of the most impressive runs we've seen in a while.  I'll be the first to admit I didn't see it holding this well.

PETS is on track to beat ZOOTP unless it has an unexpectedly bigger fall soon.

That is just amazing. ZOOTP itself had an unreal run and for PETS to beat it humbles bo predictors.

Zoo's OW was way lower and so what is crazy here is Pets OW. its legs are good but nothing out of the world. I dont know if it will have better multi than Dory.

Interesting how short Paramount kept the late legs of a movie which would probably have lingered for a long time.

2.2 weekend taking it to 191.7. Added just 3.3 more in the rest of the run.

Yeah I agree. If PETS does 345M, it's multi will be 3.3x.

If DORY does 490M, it's multi will be 3.63x.

IO was 3.96x, ZOOTP 4.56x, MINIONS was 2.9x.

So PETS legs are good but not great for an animation.

Though even after it's OW, I was expecting 3.0-3.1x for 313-323M.

Maybe was surprised at the size of the OW and expected a big correction which never came.

So personally, even the legs surprise me despite not being anything special.
