Meryl probably has nomination #20 all locked up for FFJ despite low-ish box office. This kind of role/movie is AMPA catnip.

Seems like more of a Golden Globe nomination. Pretty crowded field this year.

So is 13.4M enough to bring people back from the ledge and others to put their pitchforks away? Let's find out.

Also, to the person who said I had revisionist history with GOTG, that's not the case, you want to talk revisionist history let's discuss how most people here did not have SS anywhere near $90M OW, nevermind $133M but now we say those numbers are poor and the holds are poor...

Listen, $133M +$40M is still way higher then an $80M opening and a 50% second weekend hold.

You don't get it. It's not just about legs, it's also how you debut.. trying to minimize a ridiculous OW makes you look like a hater. Lol.

No one minimized an OW. In fact, you're the one attempting to minimize GOTG OW. The discussion in this thread has always been about the legs of the films in the DCEU. Not the OW. And when you debut almost $70M higher and still make less than another film, what does that say about how your film was received?

Nice try though.

You cant find so faithful fandoms as the fans of the DCEU, SS weekend decline was about 69%, now they rushed to save the house and we will have a 67% decline and yet WB/DC dont give a shit and still giving these fans the worst movies one after one. These fans have spent every penny to make the DCEU succeed. And they deserve a good quality movies.

DORY has a very good 27.6% Fri-Fri decline.

Will be ~476.5M after this weekend of ~1.25M.

Will surely cross 480M with Labor Day Weekend and Dollar Bump to come.

481-482M I guess. Expansion could help it to 485M.

You could say the same thing that Marvel should have done that instead of making those pieces of trash known as Thor 2 or Incredible Hulk.

Perhaps you could. Perhaps that's the point. With Suicide Squad, there's still people who are looking at their situation as a good thing because of its box office gross. With the MCU, people know Marvel Studios can and have done better than either of those movies. Even I who liked Thor: The Dark World just fine haven't fooled myself into thinking that it's one of Marvel's better films or that its box office gross of $644+ million meant there weren't any problems. Despite their success with both that movie and the MCU as a whole, it's clear with Ragnarok, Marvel isn't resting on laurels.

No because my point was never to minimize GOTG's run. My point was simply that SS's marketing campaign allowed it to open huge and it will end up turning a nice profit despite it being a film with lukewarm reception including me.. I didn't love it.  There is more than one way to make a profit... you get so hung up on legs and forget that there are other body parts worth exploring.

So if they keep getting these "crappy" movies, why on earth are they still going out of their way not just to see them, but to help them?

We get hung up on legs because we are on a box office forum. Thats what we do. And we do it with every single film that comes out.

Not really lots of people were predicting $125m+ opening weekend for SS. I thought it would hold better before the reviews came in, now it's performing just Like a thought it would a mini BvS. at this point I want DCEU to start making good films, then they can have better legs, but it's nice to show some people who have seen them have some kind of standards. I honestly kind of want them to all bomb at this point I'm too fed up.
