David Ehrlich wrote a piece about why Collett-Serra was a great choice for Suicide Squad 2 back in 2017, I guess some of those points could still work here:

Jaume Collet-Serra is genuinely great at what he does.  The Commuter and The Shallows both rule, and Non-Stop is also pretty solid.  Glad to see him getting major directing gigs.  We'll see if they're as strong as his mid-budget efforts.

Wonder if they can get this out for Dec 2020 or March-April 2021. There's a year between WW1984 and Batman currently, so there's definitely a window for release.

Think it all depends on when production starts, Rock has that movie with gal next (red notice? Or something), then I assume Black Adam is early 2020. I guess we’ll see. I’m just glad there’s finally a director attached.

I can't see it in 2020, it's suppose to film in  Q1 of 2020. WB has an empty October 2021 slot with really little little competition.

I think they will have something in Dec 2020, most likely Suicide Squad moves there. I can't see them going a year without a DC movie release.

Jumanji 3 started filming at the start of the year and will release December this year. If production for Black Adam starts in January 2020 then I can see it making December 2020. But TBH, I would rather have Suicide Squad 2 on December. It honestly just seems like a much better fit.

What is your way way way too early prediction for this movie?

I think either Suicide Squad 2 or that Trench movie if it gets off the ground (though I wouldn't put that up against Avatar 2) would be good bets for December 2020. I don't see Gunn taking too long on SS2. This will probably be a spring 2021 movie.

 

Anyway, Collet-Serra is a solid pick for this. The Shallows and The Commuter were solid and it bodes well for Jungle Cruise.

Maybe I'm misreading your post, but Birds of Prey (February) and Wonder Woman 1984 (June) both open in 2020. I mean, it's certainly possible but then that leaves only one movie for DC in 2021 with The Batman, unless Black Adam does get going later this year or early next.
