Sources say Emma Watson is pulling in $3 million upfront to play book-smart protagonist Belle. But her final payday will escalate to $15 million if the film's final haul is similar to 'Maleficent.'

I hope they mean when the film's OW is similar to the final haul of Maleficent.

UPDATE, FRIDAY NOON: Midday matinees, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is destined to log among March top openers of all-time with a current projected $165M-$175M weekend, on what looks to be a $60M-$62M Friday. These are from non-Disney industry estimates.

If/when Watson helps earn $1B for Disney, the studio will consider her salary a bargain.

F*ck that shit...this movie could sell with a hot chick off the streets...

They need to maximize their operating margin and return profit to the shareholders in form of hiked dividends aka ME...

If these estimates hold (which is very unlikely) previews would make up ~26-27% of opening day. Avengers and Jurassic World each did anywhere from 22-23% of their opening day on Thursday night, so this looks like it's sliiightly more frontloaded.

UPDATE, Friday 12:53 PM: Jurassic World is currently estimating a $65M Friday off midday sales — that’s inclusive of last night’s $18.5M B.O. If that number sticks into tonight, it will be the second-best June opening day behind June 30, 2010’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which minted $68.5M. This puts the Universal release on track for a $155M three-day bow, not only bigger than expected... The Colin Trevorrow-helmed pic is in a majority of the 26,500 ReadD-equipped theaters in 72 countries. Some insider see JW at $160M for the weekend.

Kind of like BaTB in a way, $200M OW confirmed?

JW kept rising and rising throughout the night. And then had a bonkers Saturday. This could turn out like that, but we'll need to wait for RTH's updates.

Just pointing out it's fallacious to assume DHD's numbers are always low. They may be not, but sometimes their sources are too optimistic.

Tele's just saying this because he hates fun.  Thus he hates all things Disney.

It's really difficult to know how exactly the weekend will play out with only Deadline's Friday projection of $60-62 million. First, the projection could be off (lower or higher than Deadline's number), as Deadline is notoriously unreliable (at least this early in the day).

Secondly, even if they are spot on, it's still up in the air what Beauty and the Beast's internal multiplier will be for the weekend (i.e. will Saturday stay flat, increase, or decrease), because it's somewhat of a unique case (clearly having a built in fan-base but also being a family driven film too).

It will be interesting to see how it pans out. I think we need a later update from Deadline, or for RTH to show up.

Peace,

Mike
