It was funny how huge 2012 was in the Indian community, even my parents watched as they thought the film was about the future.

2012's hype reached parents means that shows the range of this movie :D It was a perfect time to release the movie and make people believe what might happen after 2 years :D

2012 hype was surreal people went in huge numbers to watch this! Its one of those markets where it performed better than Avatar.

Optimistically, IW's 3rd weekend may even actually make top 10 all-time worldwide openings. It would need around $65 million DOM, $80 million OS-C, and $250 million China.

“Is not impossible” really hard to catch these number but is possible :)

China Box Office: 'Avengers: Infinity War' Crushes Presales Records

[The Hollywood Reporter]  9:42 AM PDT 5/9/2018 by Patrick Brzeski

Marvel Disney's Avengers: Infinity War is revving up to make a massive start in the Chinese film market, the world's second-biggest box-office territory.

The mega-tentpole had notched $47.5 million (RMB 302 million) in presales as of late Wednesday night in Beijing. With a full day to go before the local release Friday, Infinity War has set a new all-time ticket presales record in China, surpassing the estimated RMB 300 million (about $47 million at today's exchange rate) earned by Edko Film's Monster Hunt 2 during the lead-up to Chinese New Year in January.

Infinity War also handily crushed Hollywood's record for presales in China — Universal's Fate of the Furious was the prior record holder with an estimated $25 million (RMB 158 million) in 2017.

Doesn’t look that hard. Funny how the DOM opening would be 35th there, and China opening has some shot to top it.

So is 1B OS-China still possible? Seemed like it would be tough after last weekend.

EDIT:

Gave more details in a later post.

I will make so guesses. We had 17.3m today, about $14m wed because of no money from Russia (Holiday with only their movies allowed, and a few smaller Hollywood movies), a $17.5m Thu, this because Russia will return and Europe has holidays. A 23m Friday followed by 35m sat and 28m sun.

That would make for a $872.5m OS total, it only needs about $130m after that. That on the back of a $157m week. I think this will get it.

And then you remember that Pacific Rim: Uprising was supposed to do this. :hahaha:

$25 mln mentioned in text is presales for OD of FF8 and IW's $50 mln is for a whole weekend.

China Box Office presales thread pg. 120.

EDIT: IW still gonna beat FF8 break OD presales

The crazy thing is IW sat presales. It's about 73% of it's OD, that unheard of.

Real talk:

Can The Avengers: Infinity War reach $1B OS without China? ResetEra's user see ya is starting to convince me that... maybe. I actually didn't thought possible at first. But then he posted this and I'm mulling about this:

Quote

Where Infinity War hasn't already exceeded the entire run of Age of Ultron in a week and a half, it is worst case scenario practically tied or within some really really close percentage.

So without even bothering with the numbers below it bares repeating: Infinity War is bodying Age of Ultrons International Performance, and that movie almost did 1 billion overseas.

https://twitter.com/GiteshPandya/status/993147585497059328
OS Market totals for InfinityWar
@ 1.5 Weeks

Korea $69.1M
UK $67.2M
Mexico $48.7M
Brazil $44.3M
India $35.7M
Australia $34.5M
France $31.5M
Germany $28.8M
Japan $23.9M
Indonesia $20.6M
Philippines $19.7M
Italy $18.9M
Spain $17.7M
Russia $17.6M
Taiwan $17M

Age of Ultron - country - total - run
South Korea - $78,286,828 (6 week run)
United Kingdom $76,623,201 (9 week run)
Mexico $50,940,433 (9 week run)
Brazil $47,862,465 (26 week run)
India $16,695,001
Australia $30,969,152
France $34,270,887 (7 week run)
Germany $31,193,932 (12 week run)
Japan $26,373,434 (8 week run)
Indonesia (didn't open/no data on BOM)
Philippines $14,097,441 (7 week run)
Italy $18,120,047 (6 week run)
Spain $13,640,131 (14 week run)
Russia - CIS $34,319,424 (6 week run)
Taiwan $18,417,745 (9 week run)

So if Infinity War crossses $1B OS - China around... this:

$1.3B OS

$0.7m DOM

$0.4m China?

Could we see this blowing up to get VERY close to Avatar? Beucase a re-release might actually work this time around. :ohmygod:

Definitely won’t get to $1.3b OS minus China. After this weekend it will be sitting somewhere around $850m. After that it may be able to do another $200m.
