I don't know about that.  The movie isn't any good and is not funny enough to pull off a 21 Jump Street type self mocking. Paramount knows they have issues with it and isn't tracking well.

I think this is the one time that you can throw tracking out the window. I could be completely wrong of course but the way it looks I think it's going to open well and will have pretty decent legs.

Not surprised it's not good (I haven't liked the trailers even though I love The Rock) but I'm actually shocked it's not tracking well because they've been marketing it or were marketing it fairly well. Are you allowed to give us your prediction on where you think it'll open? I had it at like $25M

That low, huh? Maybe baywatch isn't cool enough even when mocked to draw big numbers. still the rock should take it higher

Baywatch doesn't really need critical approval.  It's had a pretty strong marketing campaign so far and it'll have The Rock's starpower to help it.  Wouldn't be surprised with a San Andreas-type run.

Agreed.

the latest tracking figures: " Baywatch, which is tracking to post an OK $37 million-$40 million in its five-day debut. "

I mean I feel like it's a film that I can't quite predict, I will admit that. I feel like The Rock plus Zac Efron and company should take it higher. Its an R-rated comedy that should do well but I don't know. I put it starting out at $25M. But like if it did $40M, i wouldnt be surprised. I don't see higher than that though

Btw my number was for the 3 day not 5 day.

This weekend is great news for Alien: Covenant.  With numbers this terrible, every theater is going to be putting extra showings of Alien: Covenant in their large houses and moving King Arthur and Snatched down the line so they can get rid of them.  It also is likely good news for Pirates of the Caribbean.

Hopefully this is true.

The more Alien movies, the better.

In defense of Guy Ritchie:

MAN FROM UNCLE had a great 3.39x multiplier [13.4 OW and 45.45 Dom].

So got to give Ritchie credit for that (7.3/10 on imdb, fresh for critics and audience on RT).

Didn't the director do his job well if a movie has those legs?

KING ARTHUR's Audience and Critics RT is not that different from some DCEU movies (Not taking a dig. Mentioning cause they are also WARNER BROTHERS big budget tentpoles).

So for a dismal ow, why blame the director? Looks like it never had a shot.

Even hypothetically, were it some great film on track for an epic 4.0x multiplier, 14 ow still gives it 56 dom - still a disaster for it's budget.

But say, an abysmal 2.0x with 45 ow giving 90 dom bails out the director.

IMO producers and marketing share the blame.

[And in fairness, producers and marketing deserve credit too, for SHERLOCK 1 & 2]

Because you can clearly see the movie is his work so if it's bad and in turn flops the blame lies mostly at his feet.
