Update from Cineplex (the major chain in Canada) to Ontarians, re: Ontario capacity restrictions:

Peace,

Mike

Ontario is being overreactive. The risk can be significantly mitigated by both only vaccinated entry and masks mandate but the authority still demand theaters to sacrifice half of their business during the most lucrative season of the year.

With these international numbers so far I don't see how this won't make $200M OW.

No shot it goes below $200M. WOM everywhere is extremely high. I still think over TFA and even IW is possible. I’m gonna be “conservative” and just stick with over TLJ for now.

Only vaccinated people are allowed in anyways and theatres already have mask mandates when not eating ( that no one follows). I’m not sure if theatres would make more with full auditoriums and no food or drink or 50% capacity with food and drinks but case counts have doubled in less then a week so something had to be done.

I hate living in Ontario. Since march 2020 we been in some lockdown for about 12 months of the past 20 and it seems we will be again New Years day for another 1-3 months.

We have some of the best vaccine rates and its still  shit fest here :(

All my friends in other areas gonna watch this movie  and I been looking forward to return to cinema and a great film after so long but instead looks back to the doomer life for me for now.

Anyways shows now filling up on friday like crazy as a result here.

Bruh. I guess fandango share of SC and V2 must be low :hahaha:

It's potentially opening with a higher OW than any other movie has grossed DOM this year, and it's worth noting presales are always stronger earlier in a run (plus it being the Holidays extends that strength). It's impressive, but not too surprising.

You can't even get tickets via the Atom App.  It just says "temporarily unavailable"

So it would be obvious that by Sunday, it would have sold more than any other movie total. But midday Th is a world away.

I'm out of the tracking business but one thing I will do is check my old main theater to see how many showings they do for previews.

For reference....

So Cineplex still has not started selling tickets For Sat and beyond for Now way home, this will impact the weekend but a few million I think.

Demand is huge here and its about 40% of the Canadian market (so like 4% total NA)
