"We found the thoughtfully curated stop-motion style of My Life as a Zucchini to be a great fit for our vision of a Pikmin film," says Guthrie. "When we saw that Claude Barras was available, we jumped at the chance to have him direct." Claude Barras states that even with the aid of new cutting-edge technologies in stop-motion animation, creating the world of Pikmin was a tough challenge. "So, this film is much more artful than most of Hollywood's animated films," says Barras. "The only dialogues in this film are voice-overs from Captain Olimar's journal--expertly narrated by Daniel Radcliffe. This puts pressure on the animation departments to hone in on directorial choices. When you see the Pikmin creatures in this film, you'll be able to tell that every single one of them has been pain-stakingly curated to convey life-life movement. So I do believe that the amount of characters moving around on-screen at a given time is something that will be seen as groundbreaking in and of itself." "We're really banking hard on the level of awareness that the general audience has for the Pikmin brand," says Guthrie. "This is definitely an adaptation that is faithful to its source material, but it's not relying on children's desire to see it--it's a colorful film, yes, but we're not manipulating colorful imagery to make kids want to see it. We're not Illumination, we're Dreamworks' B-team. We're New Journey Pictures Animation, you know what I'm sayin'?" Panda Studios recently acquired the rights to some major franchises including: Popular video games titles Fortnite and The Witcher Two novels, one A New York Times Best-Seller from the author of Moneyball and the Big Short(The Undoing Project) and the other Pulitzer Prize Winner (The Orphan Master’s Son) A popular children’s book franchise, Flat Stanley And the franchise rights of the “Bruce Almighty Universe” It seems like Panda Studios is still on the hunt for more properties, so expect more acquisitions from this studio in the future. As of now, they have five films slated for Y6: Flat Stanley Flat Stanley, an animated children’s adventure story about a child who becomes flat after being squashed by a bulletin board. Flat Stanley is being directed by Marc Forster (Christopher Robin, A Monster’s Ball and World War Z) and will be starring Abaraham Attah as Stanley. The announcement of the lead actor caught some controversy on some corners of Reddit and even caused a stray tweet from Donald Trump stating: ”So unfair to the many TERRIFIC white child actors because the great FLAT STANLEY series wasn’t PC enough for Hollywood, land of fake news!” Catch Flat Stanley in theaters February 25th, Y6. Fortnite: Battle Royale - Rise of Noobmaster9000 The much anticipated Fortnite movie will be live action. Few details have been given about Fortnite’s plot, as the producers have been fairly secretive about the whole project. It has been stated many of the popular “skins” will be major characters in the story, and it has been described as being akin to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle meets The Hunger Games. The film is being directed by Robert Rodriguez (Alita: Battle Angel, Spy Kids) and will feature Adam Driver, as the notorious Noobmaster9000. It’s currently unknown whether Noobmaster9000 is the lead protagonist or the antagonist of the film. You can catch Fortnite: Battle Royale - The Rise of Noobmaster9000 on June 17th, Y6. Brian Almighty From the same Universe as Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty, but being taken in an entirely new direction is Brian Almighty. Brian Almighty is comedic satire about a selfish man named Brian who, after having a negative encounter with a homeless man (who turns out to be an avatar of God), is given all of the powers of Jesus. The film follows a totally confused Brian as many New Yorkers begin to hail him as the messiah as he accidentally heals the sick and performs various other miracles. But what will everyone do when it’s exposed that he’s not the messiah and just a naughty boy? Brian Almighty stars and is directed by Ben Stiller (Tropic Thunder, Zoolander), it will also feature Morgan Freeman reprising his classic role as God. John Clease, Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam have been brought on to pen the script. Brian Almighty will be released on July 22nd, Y6. The Undoing Project Based on the best-selling novel of the man who wrote Moneyball, The Blind Side and The Big Short comes a tale of friendship between two Jewish Psychologists turned Economists, The Undoing Project. The Undoing Project tells the unlikely tale of friendship that created the field of Behavioral Economics between two men from similar backgrounds in the Israeli military who could not have been more different. This touching and tale of humanity shows the journey of how two intellects, Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky, changed mankind’s view of its own mind. The Undoing Project will be directed by Bennett Miller (Moneyball, Foxcatcher) and will star Paul Rudd and Steve Carrell as the dynamic pair. The Undoing Project will hit theaters on November 11th, Y6. The Orphan Master’s Son Rumored to be Panda Studios primary awards push is an epic drama filmed in three languages. The Orphan Master’s Son is based off the Pulitzer Prize winning novel that shows the rise of a North Korean citizen through the ranks and roles of the most dangerous and secretive country on the planet. The Orphan Master’s Son is a sweeping romance, a brutal expose of the country’s violence and poverty, a political thriller, and an intimate portrayal of humanity in the darkest of situations. The Orphan Master’s Son will star a mostly Korean cast, but will feature American stars Woody Harrelson and Amy Adams. Korean director, Chan-Wook Park (Oldboy, The Handmaiden) will be helming the film penned by Adam Johnson and Ronald Harwood (The Pianist, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly). Inspired by anime like One Punch Man, space opera such as Spark: Rising and thrawling fantasies such as Earthsong and Pillars of Eternity, comes the next hopeful franchise for Endless Entertainment. Original movies have always been a struggling point for Endless Entertainment, despite being one of the most dominant studios (box office wise), most of their movies are adaptations. Xavier B. Irving after a stressful school year wants Y6 to be a breakthrough year for Endless Entertainment especially with original films. Lesedi Pyre (played by Kiersey Clemons) is the easygoing, charming and rather cocky princess of Novos, a magical land almost ripped out of storybook, and a comic book, and a manga and also fan fiction. Lesedi is blessed with the power of the Phoenix, granting enhanced strength and speed, pyrokenisis and flight but fails to control it. Lesedi often finds herself as the damsel in distress in her own life, and doesn’t desire to be ruler despite her obvious skills, often saved by her best friend and crush, Ira (Saoirse Ronan), the rather deadpan and snarky powerful defender of Novos with godlike strength on her side as the kingdom faces constant peril from the dastardly overdramatic Malraka (Michael Fassbender). However, one day, Ira has been seemingly corrupted and forms an alliance with Malraka, throwing Novos into chaos. Lesedi, on a quest to take back kingdom and save her girlfriend, as she alongside Evan (Tye Sheridan), a steampunk cyborg and the kingdoms inventor, Alvaros (motion capture by Gerard Butler), a humanoid strange mix of a lynx and a Komodo dragon who although ancient, is Lesedi’s trusted mentor and Igna (motion capture by Vera Farmiga), a rather crude and intoxicated dragon who is the pet/best friend of Lesedi, as the three journey to find not only the cure for Ira and take back her kingdom but help Lesedi master her powers. Lesedi will still be directed by Travis Knight but in a shocking twist, Noelle Stevenson (Two Lonely Bounty Hunters) will also direct the project.
