Perhaps he thought he was gonna get cast in that Lawrence/Schumer comedy that was announced around that time but is now looking unlikely to ever be made.

Man that is some amazing recall.

It's so strange that Dark Phoenix is the only upcoming J-Law project.

There was so much buzz around it when it was announced (especially with Schumer coming off of Trainwreck and Lawrence still getting an Oscar nom for Joy despite the movie being a nonevent) but I'm guessing Schumer being a much more polarizing figure now than she was in January '16 and JLaw putting out the unloved and uneventful trifecta of Passengers, mother!, and Red Sparrow since have assured that there's no rush to get it made, if ever.

Whatever happened to that Netflix Rihanna-Lupita movie based on an online meme directed by Ava Duvernay? That's another one which was announced with fanfare but looks unlikely to be ever made.

I honestly forgot all about that lol. Think the last thing the industry needs is to start cranking out movies based on joke tweets.

I'm at a complete loss if our theaters are up and running or not.

They only have showtimes for the new releases and nothing else instead of being downright closed as they were during another hurricane. The AMC lobby has something crashed through the roof, so they can stop being lazy and actually remodel it.
