anyone revisiting 1999 films?  about to finish up January with She's All That.

Watched Varsity Blues, At First Sight, Virus, In Dreams, and Gloria

Varsity Blues was a strong film for its genre, and At First Sight was lukewarm for its genre, Gloria was a C- at best for me.

(85/100) - Varsity Blues

(78/100) - At First Sight

(69/100) - Gloria

In Dreams was tough to follow and it got more challenging in the last 1/3 and I must re-watch, but for now

(76/100)

I was a little let down by Virus because the main monster did not have as big of a speaking role as I once remembered, but it is still one of my all time favorite cult classics

(93/100)

We all get into a ton of arguments about best movies and franchises and whatnot but it always warms my heart how much the BOT community supports each other.

Yep could not agree more. Makes this forum feel like a home.

watched She's All That (1999).  It was okay, I'd give it about an 86% , the last 45 minutes fell flat.

grading it against expectations that I previously had which was around 3/4 stars,

and an interjecting image of a poster with RLC walking down the stairs in the poster in a red dress and a song going "Kiss Me".

next up in February 1999, (or covering another January month)

- Payback, Simply Irresistible

- Message in a Bottle, Blast From the Past, My Favourite Martian

- October Sky, Office Space, Jawbreaker

- 8MM, The Other Sister, 200 Cigarettes, 20 Dates

     January of 1999

(93/100) - Virus

(86/100) - She's All That

(85/100) - Varsity Blues

(78/100) - At First Sight

(76/100) - In Dreams

(69/100) - Gloria

Happy Death Day 2U was a mess. It basically drops the horror aspect and goes all in on being self aware. This backfires outside of a couple moments. It still wants to be taken seriously in some moments, none of which is earned or warranted. Most people I spoke to after the movie were very mixed on it, but I know a few who enjoyed it. The audience ate it up though, so it’ll probably do well with the GA despite getting a RT score in the 30s or 40s.

Also, two notes: 1. There is a midcredits scene. 2. THERE IS NO IN DA CLUB

watched Payback (1999), thought it was real good but not sure whether to put in my top 10 classics of 1999 w/ an A (90%+) or downgrade it to a B (80%+)

the cinematography worked good in the movie and kept me watching

if it ranks in my top 10 of 1999 w/ a solid A, then maybe...

1) Star Wars

2) The Matrix

3) Fight Club

4) American Beauty

5) Payback

6) The Mummy

7) The Sixth Sense

😎 Office Space

9) Sleepy Hallow

10) Three Kings

11) Virus

12) Galaxy Quest

- Being John Malkovich

- The Insider

- Magnolia

- Election

- Boys Don't Cry

- The Iron Giant

- Toy Story 2

but for now w/ what I've seen in January, i'll give it a high B for now

January of 1999

(93/100) - Virus

(87/100) - Payback *Feb release

(86/100) - She's All That

(85/100) - Varsity Blues

(78/100) - At First Sight

(76/100) - In Dreams

(69/100) - Gloria

Looks like Apple is starting to get into the movie business as well. I still want to know how we're supposed to watch all of those shows they have in development. Through their website?

Isn't Apple starting their own streaming service?

At this point a better question would probably be who isn't launching their own streaming service. I say good luck to all of them because the only one I can see having guaranteed survival is Disney but that's because they're Disney.

They might as well lose the "possible" from that headline.

Our newspapers almost always put "possible" or "allegedly" in front of things that are often aren't.

Well, the perpetrators could sue for defamation. “We’re not racist homophobes. We just like bashing people.”

Our libel laws are looser than yours, I think. But I think it also comes down to newspapers wanting not to jump to conclusions and/or making sure they project a "look at both sides" image.
