Depends on the movie and it depends on if the audience is reacting appropriately to the movie.  Something like Star Wars works really well with a crowd.

I imagine myself sometimes watching The Handmaiden (2016) with a crowd. Uh i probably would cringe myself to death (despite and because The Handmaiden is so awesome in what its doing)

I was watching Agatha Cristie's ABC Murders and there is a cinema murder scene which made me think that actually a theater is quite a spooky place with so much darkness and strangers surrounding you.

Funny thing is I saw Counselor and Gone Girl with her, both of which feature far more explicit sexual content yet she didn't mention it after either one. Here she slapped me on the leg anytime she was uncomfortable. 

 

In fact, the whole audience tittered when shown any nudity or sex. It was pretty fascinating. Almost felt like everybody was thinking, "Oh my God, I can't believe she's nude!"
