Black Panther: $29M

Tomb Raider: $23.1M

I Can Only Imagine: $14M

Love, Simon: $12M

No actual Friday numbers yet from what I can see, though says "Chart Coming...".

Peace,

Mike

This day keeps getting worse.

Forecasted for 3rd best 5th weekend then, but fingers crossed on edging out Titanic’s 30.01.

Deadline’s update also says: “that many ultimately believe will be an end game of $650M stateside, $1.25 billion worldwide”

Which seems like a total joke lowball to me off of a 29 Mil weekend — 1.3 is more likely than not.

On the bright side we have Black Panther which is performing like a summer tentpole during the first quarter of the year, set to hit $607.4M this Sunday, and what many ultimately believe will be an end game of $650M stateside, $1.25 billion worldwide and now per our film finance sources a total estimated profit of $461M after all ancillaries are counted

Black Panther would need to drop pretty hard to finish with just $650 million domestic. Only needs 2.47x multiplier off this weekend to hit that mark.

Exactly. 700 is  a much more realistic number than 650 with the weekend they’re projecting.

35+ opening for TR in China. Could get to 60 total there and dom too (23.1*2.6). So 120 from China and Dom combined. 130 from rest of the world for 250 ww looks rather likely imo.

That’s good news money wise for WB and saves the film from flop territory (more than 2.5x it’s budget).

But that US total kills chances of a sequel.

Deadline reports $106m for TB's budget, jeez it didn't look that expensive. Passengers did $300m with the same budget and it's considered a flop.

Who consider Passengers a flop? Near 3x the budget WW with 100m DOM. Good numbers for an original sci-fi imo.

So pretty much assassin creed type budget except it might have gotten 10-15M rebate.

250-275m WW looks like solid numbers, yeah. 3x times the budget is always a good thing but the DOM gross will probably deny a sequel. Not a money loser in the end though

The pedigree behind that project was beyond this movie.

Jennifer (oscar wins+nominations+hunger games)

Chris Pratt (Guardians + JW)

Tyldum (oscar nominated)

Blacklist script

sci-fi/prime december release spot

Yeah no Gravity there, but far from a flop. Star power means next to nothing in this days and space original sci-fi is a very though sell. Prometheus did 400 WW at the end and it had several times more pedigree that something like Passengers.
